The Fête and Ball at Versailles was held at the Hall in 1913 in aid of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Help Society.
At this costume ball, the attendees took part in a pageant which represented European courts paying respects to Louis XIV at the Palace of Versailles. This grand event was attended by Queen Mary and sixteen other royal princes and princesses, as well as the great Russian ballet dancer Anna Pavlova.
Our new Afternoon Tea which launched this week is inspired by this ball and the elegance of the Gardens of Versailles. Menu highlights include citrus-filled ‘mandarins from the tree’, lemon and poppy seed madeleines, and the Bergeron apricot, almond and lemon thyme beehive, finished with honey from the Hall’s very own rooftop bees 🐝
