πŸ’™ Celebrating our carers at Burntwood Villas

We know how important carers, family members and friends are in supporting the people we care for.

At the end of August, the team at Burntwood Villas was delighted to host an end-of-summer event for carers, bringing together family members and friends of people receiving support from the rehabilitation unit.

The event was an opportunity to enjoy good food and good company, while recognising and thanking carers for the invaluable support they provide every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. The team hopes this will become a regular opportunity to celebrate and recognise the carers who play such an important role in people's recovery.

Our Mental Health Crisis Line number is changing. Please help us spread the word!

πŸ“ž From 1 October 2026, anyone needing urgent mental health support in south west London should call NHS 111 instead of 0800 028 8000.

People will still be connected to local mental health crisis services, and the support they receive will remain the same. The only thing changing is the phone number.

Moving to NHS 111 will provide a single, nationally recognised number for people to call when they need urgent help.

Children and young people, their families and carers will still be able to contact the South London Partnership CAMHS Crisis Line on 020 3228 5980 between 9am and 11pm every day. This number is not changing.

πŸ”„ Please share this message with your networks to help spread the word.

A huge congratulations to Remy Wesolowski, who has successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in support of our Trust charity, raising an incredible Β£1,709 so far!

Taking on one of the UK's toughest endurance challenges, Remy climbed the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. πŸ₯ΎπŸ—»

Reflecting on the challenge, Remy said: "It was hard, but I did it! Finishing in 23 hours and 48 minutes is something I'm really proud of. It wasn't just a physical challenge. The lack of sleep meant it also required real mental endurance. There were tough moments along the way, but knowing I was raising money for our Trust charity kept me going. If anyone is thinking about taking on a challenge like this, I'd say train hard because you'll enjoy it so much more, make sure you pack plenty of tasty snacks, have a spa day booked afterwards, and most importantly, enjoy every moment!"

Every pound raised will help our Trust charity continue supporting patients, staff and services across our communities, making Remy's accomplishment even more meaningful. If you'd like to recognise Remy's incredible achievement and help raise even more money for our Trust charity, please consider making a donation via her JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/remy-wesolowski-1

We're delighted to have been shortlisted for two national awards! πŸ†

Our Bluebell Ward team has been shortlisted for the Mental Health Safety Improvement Award at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards for their work to improve care for Deaf and Deafblind patients through accessible, communication-led care.

Our Cultural Capability Programme has been shortlisted for the NHS Race Equality Award at the HSJ Awards, recognising our work to build a more culturally capable workforce and improve care for people from racially minoritised communities.

Both projects have been developed in partnership with patients, carers and staff, and reflect our commitment to providing inclusive, person-centred care.

Congratulations to everyone involved, and good luck at the awards ceremonies!

πŸŽ₯ Videos explaining how to get urgent mental health support through NHS 111 are now available in commonly spoken languages across south west London, including this one in Hindi.

We want everyone to be able to access the mental health advice, information and support they need, when they need it. By creating videos in a range of languages, we hope more people will know who to turn to if they, or someone they know, is experiencing a mental health crisis.

In this video, Shikainah, a psychological Therapist at Sutton Talking Therapies, shares an important message:

πŸ’¬ "If you're feeling overwhelmed, unsafe, or finding it difficult to manage your thoughts and feelings, you don't have to face it alone. You can call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option.

"If you've never asked for mental health support before, it can feel frightening or you might feel unsure, but help is available. Please don't suffer in silence."

A big thank you to Shikainah for supporting this important project πŸ’™

What should local health and care look like for unpaid carers?

Kingston is shaping its approach to Neighbourhood Health - bringing health, care and community services together so people can get the right support, at the right time, closer to home.

But this can’t be shaped without carers.

Join us for an important Neighbourhood Health for Carers Workshop and share what’s working, what needs to change and what really matters to you.

Your experiences and priorities can help inform future plans and make sure unpaid carers are recognised as essential partners in care.

πŸ“… Tuesday 15 September

πŸ•™ 10.30am–12.30pm

πŸ“ The Guildhall, Queen Anne Suite, Kingston (KT1 1EU)

We’re also delighted to welcome Dominic King-Carter, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at Carers Trust, as a guest speaker.

Whether you’ve been caring for years or are newer to your caring role, your perspective matters. Please share this with carers in your network too.
