60 years of Notting Hill Carnival, and five years of Haiti proudly being part of it.

Born at a time when Caribbean communities in London were facing racism and hostility, became an expression of culture, identity and belonging. Sixty years later, that history remains at the heart of Europe’s largest street festival.

This weekend, Haiti brought its own energy to Carnival. From the Haiti stage at Powis Square with and .kolo, to Troop Monday and Haiti on the road with .

A special thank you to the Haitian Chamber of Commerce of Great Britain, whose work has made Haiti’s presence at Notting Hill Carnival possible for the past five years. The Embassy was proud to collaborate again with the this year to bring Haiti, our artists and our culture to this extraordinary platform.

We also acknowledge and thank all the sponsors who supported Haiti’s participation this year. It was especially encouraging to see businesses from Haiti among them, and we hope to see even more Haitian companies take part in the years ahead.

Notting Hill Carnival was born from difficult circumstances, and its history is part of what makes Haiti’s presence there so meaningful. There will always be space for what Haiti creates and gives to the world: our history, our music, our dance, our costumes and the people who keep these traditions alive.

A pleasure to meet Minister Uma Kumaran MP for our first discussion since her appointment as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State with responsibility for the Caribbean and Overseas Territories.

A substantive exchange on Haiti’s current security situation, the electoral process, and the work underway to restore stability and strengthen our institutions. We also discussed deepening Haiti–UK cooperation on security and trade.

We welcome Minister Kumaran’s engagement on Haiti and look forward to working closely together on these priorities.

Following a recent article highlighting the challenges facing Haiti’s mango sector, the Embassy met with ASPELEM, the Professional Association for Mango Development, to discuss the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) and what opportunities it could offer Haitian mango growers, producers and exporters.

With significant production capacity and a sector that supports thousands of livelihoods, Haitian mangoes have real potential. The discussion focused on what it would take to access the UK market, from standards and logistics to building a viable export pathway.

A first conversation, and hopefully the first of many, toward reconnecting Haitian mangoes with international markets.

Meet Marc Ruben Claude!

Born and raised in Haiti, Marc’s journey took him from Petit Séminaire Collège Saint-Martial to becoming the first Haitian Chevening Scholar to graduate from LSE. In 2016, he returned to Haiti and co-founded Maximax, a social enterprise that mentors and coaches Haitian students and young professionals to win full scholarships abroad.

Over the past decade, Maximax has helped more than 70 mentees reach top-tier universities and secure millions of dollars in scholarships, eight in ten of them first-generation university students, opening doors that didn’t exist for their families before.

Chevening Awards isn’t just a scholarship. It’s a lifetime opportunity for Haitian students to study in the UK, build a global network, and come back to invest in Haiti’s future, just like Marc did through Maximax.

Bois Caïman is more than a historical date. It represents one of the defining moments in Haiti’s journey toward freedom and independence.

On 14 August 1791, enslaved people in Saint-Domingue gathered at Bois Caïman in a ceremony led by Dutty Boukman and Cécile Fatiman. The gathering became a powerful symbol of unity, resistance, and collective determination, and is widely remembered as a catalyst for the Haitian Revolution.

We commemorate this date because freedom was not given to Haiti; it was fought for. Bois Caïman reminds us of the courage of those who came before us and the power of people coming together around a shared vision of liberty and dignity.

For us, it is a reminder of where our struggle for freedom took a decisive turn and why the story of Haiti matters far beyond our borders.

On the heels of Haiti’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, we were pleased to meet with Steve Cuss, Head of Community at AFC Bournemouth, to explore opportunities for collaboration with the Fédération Haïtienne de Football represented by Karl-Philippe Alexis.

The discussion also built on Bournemouth University’s partnership with AFC Bournemouth as the club’s official Higher Education Partner and principal partner of its women’s and girls’ teams. We explored how these connections could support football, education and youth development in Haiti.

AFC Bournemouth’s remarkable rise and success in the Premier League offer valuable experience as Haiti looks to build on the momentum generated by the World Cup.

Thank you to Mayor rocca.robb for bringing us together and continuing to strengthen the links between Bournemouth and Haiti.

Ambassador Anaïse Manuel and Embassy Counsellor Wadner Arthus visited Bournemouth University to explore opportunities for collaboration between Haiti and the University, alongside Karl Philippe Alexis, representing both the Fédération Haïtienne de Football and Université Quisqueya.

The delegation met with Professor Alison Honour, Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor; Professor AbouBakr Fathalla, Dean of Global Engagement and Strategic Partnerships; Professor Richard Gordon MBE, Director of the Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre; Hersha Pandya, Head of International Marketing and Student Recruitment; and colleagues from the University’s international team.

Discussions focused on disaster management, a key priority for Haiti, as well as Bournemouth University’s partnership with AFC Bournemouth, highlighting the role sport can play in education and development. The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration in tourism, media, and other areas of mutual interest.

The Embassy extends its sincere thanks to the Mayor of Bournemouth, rocca.robb, for making this visit possible. We look forward to building on these discussions in the months ahead.

Today we welcomed H.E. Mr. Edmund G. Hinkson SC, High Commissioner of Barbados to the United Kingdom.

Our warm and productive discussions reaffirmed the strong bonds between Haiti and Barbados and explored new opportunities to deepen cooperation across areas of shared interest.

We look forward to building on our longstanding friendship and strengthening the partnership that unites our Caribbean family.
