Chelwood focusses on developing confident and independent children who are able to make informed choices and decisions for themselves, whilst developing a caring and considerate and responsible attitude towards other people and their environment. We believe that the consistency provided by regular sessions and routines, a familiar and consistent peer group and staff team, are significant factors i

n developing these life skills. Each class is staffed by a team of qualified Early Years practitioners led by a qualified teacher. The children's learning environment is carefully planned by the classteams to provide a wide range of learning experiences for the children both inside the classroom and outside. Out door play is a very important part of the learning experience children have here at Chelwood and we are committed to providing high quality outdoor learning all year round. Children have direct access to the outdoor area from their classes and are encouraged to use the whole school as their learning environment, visiting the other classes and making their own decisions about where they play. The activities and learning experiences are carefully planned by the class teams who through their knowledge of the children and families personalise activities to follow and support the children's individual interests and learning styles.
