The University of Sunderland in London (UoSiL) offers career-focused courses in business, finance, nursing, health and tourism. Located near Canary Wharf, we attract students from all over the world, offering a rich and diverse learning environment which prepares them for their future careers in a multicultural and international setting. Our course timetables work around students and accommodate an excellent work-life balance. We have four intakes a year and offer two-three days teaching on campus, providing students the opportunity to work and take part in extra-curricular activities to boost their employability. Dedicated student support services ranging from academic guidance, health and wellbeing to career advice support our students to successfully navigate the transition from education to employment. Part of the University of Sunderland, located in the northeast of England, and with an additional campus in Hong Kong, we are committed to widening participation and providing accessible education, both locally and globally for all students regardless of their background.

This year, more than 200 students strengthened their career and professional development skills by taking part in Enterprise and Employability Week, a seven-day programme held in early October. The event connected students with employers, entrepreneurs, alumni and university staff.

Organised by our London academic employability team, the event brought together students from across our BSc Top-Up programmes, including business, hospitality, nursing and social care.

This afternoon, we were pleased to welcome Abbas Seyedan, financial analyst and PhD Researcher in Finance, to deliver a guest workshop for our MSc FinTech students. Drawing on experience gained across the banking and financial services sector, Abbas shared valuable insights from both industry and academia.

The session, 'From Market Analysis to Trading and Portfolio Decisions', explored forex fundamentals, risk management and portfolio selection, combining theory with practical activities and real-world examples. Students also gained an understanding of the skills and development pathways required to progress from entry-level roles to advanced trading and financial analysis careers.

Thank you to Abbas for sharing his expertise and experiences with our students. Sessions such as this demonstrate the value of connecting academic study with industry expertise, helping ensure our programmes are aligned with professional practice and evolving sector needs.

Yesterday, we hosted our inaugural Public Health in Action conference, bringing together students, academics, and healthcare professionals.

The event included a range of presentations on globally significant topics, including climate change, disease prevention, and mental health, aimed at advancing wellbeing.

We'd like to thank keynote speakers Dr SM Kadri and Laura Austin Croft for their contributions. Thanks also to Dr Geeta Hitch for organising the event.

We had a great day last Friday at the RCNi Nursing Careers & Jobs Fair at the Business Design Centre! Our Student Recruitment Team joined colleagues and student ambassadors from our Nursing and Health faculty to meet prospective nurses and healthcare professionals, share more about studying with us, and showcase the nursing and health courses we offer.

It was also a great opportunity for us to introduce our new pre-registration MNurse (Adult) programme, with applications now open for January 2027.
