Global Learning London We work with children, young people and their wider communities, to cultivate optimism and action for a more just and sustainable world. We change systems.

Why we do it –
We believe that a kinder, more equitable world is possible, one where people and planet thrive to their full potential and beyond. How we do it –
We work together with teachers and schools to open up spaces for learning and enquiry into how to be better facilitators for our children’s growth and where global perspectives and indigenous wisdoms are central. We create workshops, festivals and encounters to forge connections between children, young people and their local communities. We ensure families, small local businesses, and community are part of the conversation, and that children’s voices flow into them, and are amplified within them. We plant seeds for learner-led projects, then move out of the way and cheer them on as they grow. We seek to create environments where we are all learners – where power is truly shared. We lobby government and local councils to reform education, from the bottom up. We do all this with curiosity, creativity and critical thinking, and with art and culture at the heart. We are not afraid to challenge and be challenged. Because our cause is greater than our fear.

“Even a small voice has a big impact” – Student from Oaklands Secondary School

Last year, we brought primary, secondary and university students together in The Recycling Lab, a creative learning programme where students across ages worked together to create solutions that increase recycling efforts in their community.

Our new School Waste Management Toolkit has been developed from these sessions and is packed full of activities for students and teachers to explore what is currently happening in their school, identify changes that could make a difference, and create a clear plan for action.

We've been working together with teachers and schools to open up spaces for learning, for enquiry into how to be better facilitators for our children’s growth, and for contributing to a sustainable world where global perspectives and indigenous wisdoms are central.

Our Tower Hamlets Linking Project, part of , has been bringing students together across shared and different experiences!

Over the course of a year, we've been connecting schools through this project. Students have various opportunities to connect with pupils from their linked schools through online and offline spaces, including letter writing and online classrooms. Students also get the opportunity to meet each other in person at our Linking Project events.

The project has helped to develop empathy, critical thinking, trust, self-esteem, achievement, recovery , and supports mental health and wellbeing through meaningful connections with others.

At Global Learning London, we have been involved in linking for twenty years. We see just how important that connection with others is in building the skills for students to become active contributors in creating a more just, peaceful and sustainable world.

Our Tower Hamlets Linking Project has been connecting students across schools. We've been doing this through facilitating online and offline spaces where students have been writing letters to eachother, sharing their experiences, and learning together about identiity, culture and belonging.

This project is part of , which inspires and equips schools to support children and young people to build meaningful connections across all forms of difference.

This is the learning that happens when students across schools, geographies and experiences are given the opportunity to connect and learn from each other!

Our Tower Hamlets Linking Project brings together children across Tower Hamlets to share, play and learn together through online and offline spaces. We've been connecting schools across the Tower Hamlets area, facilitating spaces where students can explore identity, communication and difference by connecting with students from other schools.

Last month at the Town Hall, we hosted a event for several schools in Tower Hamlets. They spent the day with Marva Rollins OBE engaging in activities to explore what it means to be an protagonist/change maker, what a well-being school community means and what is needed for this and how pupils can take action to make this happen.

At Global Learning London, we have been facilitating creative interventions that call and respond to courage, to embed anti-oppressive practice into organisations working with communities.

We’ve worked with organisations such as Greenpeace UK, Women in Prison and London Borough of Tower Hamlets Supporting Families Division, supporting cultural shifts to embed justice, inclusion, anti-racism and anti-oppression into their practice at board-level and on the ground.

Sunday 17 May marked the day in 1990 when the World Health Organization officially declassified homosexuality as a mental health disorder. Only 36 years ago. Today, the day continues to be a necessary moment in raising awareness and a critical call for humanity.

This year's theme was ‘at the heart of democracy’. It calls us to remember that a society is only as healthy as its ability to protect everyone.

To build equity and justice into the heart - the foundation, the soil - of our society and decision-making is to build a future where days like this can centre more on celebration of identity, rather than a necessary and ongoing call for safety.
