โ€œThe Prime Minister talks a good talk, now letโ€™s see delivery.โ€

North Antrim MLA Jon Burrows has called on new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to ensure families in Northern Ireland feel real relief from the cost of living crisis, while South Antrim MP Robin Swann has written to Downing Street outlining a series of priorities ranging from trade and hospitality to agriculture and legacy issues.

Ulster Unionist MP Robin Swann has said yesterdayโ€™s resignation speech by former Armed Forces Minister Al Carns has confirmed long-standing claims that a difficult relationship between the Ministry of Defence and the Northern Ireland Office lies behind repeated delays to the Troubles Bill.

Robin Swann MP said:

โ€œIt has long been recognised that the fracturous relationship between the Ministry of Defence and the Northern Ireland Office was what had delayed and stalled the Troubles Bill. Al Cairnsโ€™ comments yesterday has put that firmly on the record.

โ€œUnfortunately the record, and previous comments from the new Defence Ministerial team, would have me questioning if their opposition to the persecution of veterans and lack of support of victims will be as resolute.โ€

Iโ€™ve tabled a motion in Parliament calling on the Treasury to introduce a 10% hospitality VAT pilot for Northern Ireland.

Our pubs, restaurants and cafes are vitally important to our high streets and towns, and they employ thousands of local people. But right now, they are facing massive pressures from rising running costs, and the Government needs to act.

Cutting VAT to 10% would give our local businesses some much-needed financial breathing space, protect local jobs and help grow the economy.
