Fun for all the family

🎨 We’ve come up with a fun and simple way for the children of the UK to get involved in our banknote consultation.

Teachers and parents – download and print our worksheet and challenge the kids to design their own versions of the new notes 💷

They can choose one animal from our shortlist and draw a picture to show us how it could look.

Share the creations with us and we'll share our favourites on our social media profiles.

What does ‘liquidity’ mean? 🤔

Liquidity essentially means how quickly you can get cash when you need it.

An individual’s liquidity is normally the money in your bank account.

Banks have accounts with the Bank of England, where they hold central bank reserves and can generate additional liquidity in accounts held within RTGS (Real-Time Gross Settlement).

As well as providing settlement services, RTGS is also part of how the Bank of England implements monetary policy decisions. Interest is paid on reserves accounts at Bank Rate (aka interest rate) and provides secured liquidity to the UK’s financial system.
