🏆 Somewhere between the Porchester Centre and the north side of the park, most of this ward's sport is happening on any given evening. Somebody is running it.

The ActiveWestminster Awards are the council's annual recognition for those people, and nominations are open now. Nine categories, and Unsung Hero is one of them.

Local councillors Christabel and Mark would like a Bayswater name on the list this year. Queensway, Westbourne Grove and the streets behind them are full of people who would never put themselves forward.

So somebody else has to do it.

Queensway has enough going on without a row of hire bikes parked across the middle of it.

Councillors were given the year's enforcement figures last week. Around 700 dangerously parked bikes seized, £250,000 taken back from the firms in penalties and seizure costs, and the four operators brought in and told to get a grip.

Local councillors Christabel and Mark hear about this constantly, on Queensway, Westbourne Grove and Porchester Road.

Anyone who drives east in the morning already knows where this one is going.

247 names went from Brook Street and the roads around it to the Full Council meeting of 16 September, about queues that form every morning now that road runs on a single lane.

The meeting heard that someone has now stood at the junction, that revisions are being worked up, and that both lanes back is the aim. Nothing happens until an order is made and residents have been consulted, so the timing is early next year at best.

A city-wide review of active travel schemes comes with it. Local councillors Christabel and Mark pushed for that review and will report back on what it means for the roads here.

A quiet Sunday, an easy run north from Queensway, and a street full of bicycles at the other end of it.

Church Street is hosting Sunday Streets, on till two, a London Cycling Festival date. Free Dr Bike checks, the preloved bike market, skills sessions, cargo cycles to try, and stalls, food and music.

Local councillors Christabel and Mark hear plenty about how people get around Queensway and Westbourne Grove, and a free bike service is one of the more useful things going on in the borough today.

Join St John Ambulance, London Fire Brigade and the City of Westminster for a Community Resilience Day at Paddington Fire Station this Saturday, 5 September, from 11am–4pm.
