FUNDING | Green Roots Fund DEADLINE 2pm Thursday 28 May
Grants of up to ÂŁ500,000 are available for projects that improve biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience and enhance green spaces across London.
The Green Roots Fund will support projects that create healthier, greener and more climate-resilient neighbourhoods. Funding is available for both physical delivery and early-stage development work, including feasibility studies, community co-design, partnership development and volunteer engagement.
Projects can run for up to two years.
Who can apply
Eligible applicants include charities, CICs, community groups, local authorities, housing associations and other formally-constituted organisations (that are not-for-profit with an organisational bank account and ability to enter legal contracts) delivering projects in Greater London. Partnerships are encouraged, particularly where projects demonstrate strong local engagement and long-term environmental benefit.
What is funded
Funding can support tree planting, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), wetlands, habitat creation, rewilding, biodiversity enhancement, climate adaptation activity, greening public spaces and community-led environmental projects. The fund will also support preparatory activity such as feasibility studies, surveys, technical development, co-design and volunteer mobilisation. Please note, the fund requires at least 10% match funding, including in-kind.
DEADLINE 2pm Thursday 28 May 2026
Non-profits and local councils can apply for funding to improve London's green and blue spaces for local communities.
