🇬🇷 Opa! It was Greece Day at Grasmere! 🇬🇷

Today we brought a little taste of Greece to Grasmere with colourful decorations, Greek scenery, flags, music and plenty of fun.

We enjoyed learning a few Greek words, discovering famous Greek stars, exploring some of the top places to visit in Greece and testing our knowledge with a mixture of serious and very silly Greek quizzes! There was plenty of laughter along the way, especially with some rather ridiculous answer choices. 😂

Lunch kept the theme going with chicken gyros, Greek salad and yoghurt with fruit, accompanied by Greek taverna music.

In the afternoon, residents posed for some fun Greek-themed photos, waved the flag and finished the day with our own simplified version of Zorba the Greek, plenty of clapping, kicking and smiling!

A lovely day of music, culture, food, laughter and armchair travel. 🇬🇷💙

⛪ A lovely Wednesday visit from Christchurch Sutton ☕💛

Wednesday saw the return of our lovely friends Nicola and Sheila from Christchurch Sutton, who joined us for a warm and peaceful Communion Service.

Afterwards, they stayed for what has become a much-loved tradition — tea, conversation and plenty of friendly catching up with our residents. ☕😊

Our residents really enjoy the time they spend with our friends from Christchurch Sutton, and these regular visits are always a lovely opportunity for friendship, companionship and connection.

A big thank you to Nicola and Sheila for spending the afternoon with us. 💛

Thursday afternoon saw us bringing out the good old netball hoops and setting up the lounge for a lively game of seated basketball! 🏀

We’ve found this is a great way to get our residents moving while keeping things relaxed, inclusive and, most importantly, fun.

The idea is simple — residents can pass the ball, throw it straight towards the basket, bounce it, kick it, or even head it! 😄 There are plenty of ways for everyone to join in and take part in their own way.

It certainly made for a fun afternoon, with lots of movement, laughter and enthusiastic attempts at the basket.

And a big thank you to Tony, Kathleen’s son, for helping out this afternoon. He did a brilliant job joining in, supporting the residents and helping make the session so much fun for everyone. ❤️

🎩✨ A Magical Afternoon at Grasmere! ✨🎈

On Wednesday afternoon, we welcomed Theo the Magician to Grasmere for a fantastic afternoon of close-up magic!

How did he do it? We have absolutely no idea but Theo certainly had our residents intrigued, amazed and wondering just what would happen next!

After the magic came the balloons, with Theo creating all sorts of wonderful balloon animals, and even a few balloon swords! We were also joined by a couple of children, and Theo was just as brilliant at keeping them entertained and involved in the fun.

Theo was fantastic with our residents and wonderful with the children, making it a really enjoyable afternoon for everyone.

Thank you, Theo, for bringing a little bit of magic to Grasmere! ✨🪄🎈

A lovely visit from the wonderful Wendy Bedford at Grasmere today! 💙

Wendy came along to tell us all about the fantastic training opportunities that the London Borough of Sutton has available for care homes.

The support offered with training is truly amazing and is exactly what care homes need to help our staff stay up to date, continue developing their skills, and ultimately provide the very best possible care for our residents.

We are incredibly grateful to the council for providing such a fantastic range of training opportunities, and of course to Wendy, who is always so supportive and amazing at what she does. Thank you!

When a Care Home Brings the Community Together

☀️ Grasmere Bingo! 🎱

Thursday afternoon might have been hot, but that wasn’t going to stop the residents at Grasmere from enjoying a few games of Grasmere Bingo! 😎

We tried out a new bingo app, which proved really helpful, displaying the numbers clearly on our big screens and helping us keep track of all those numbers called. It certainly helped take our minds off the extraordinary heat outside!

Of course, in weather like this, an ice lolly break was essential! 🍦🧊 Then, suitably refreshed, it was eyes down again for the rest of our games.

Derek was out and about again today after another appointment! 😊

This time, he enjoyed a lovely Chinese meal and some quality time out with the team. 🥢🥡 It was another great opportunity to get out, enjoy some good food and make the most of his day! 💙

🎶 What a lovely afternoon! 🎤💛

Today we welcomed our friends from Crossways for a fun and friendly afternoon sing-along.

There was plenty of music, smiles and singing as we enjoyed some old favourites including Down at the Old Bull and Bush, That’s Amore, and of course we had to finish with a big Sweet Caroline! 🎶👏

We always love welcoming our friends and keeping those important connections going between our homes.
