NEW POST FROM CLLR BRIAN EVANS
We’ve had several enquiries from residents about the leaflet currently circulating regarding the proposed development at Long Meadow Farm, Market Drayton.
Cllr Brian Evans (St Martin’s Division), who also serves on the Northern Planning Committee, has provided the following update to help clarify the position and next steps.

🟥
Thanks to everyone who has contacted me about the leaflet regarding a potential development at Long Meadow Farm.
Let me be absolutely clear — this is not a planning application. What residents have received is a developer consultation exercise, designed to test the waters before anything is formally submitted.
The proposal being discussed is for around 400 houses on land to the north west of Market Drayton. That is a very significant expansion, and it’s right that people are asking serious questions about what this could mean for our area.
Developers will always present proposals in the best possible light. However, residents are entitled to look beyond that and ask:
• Can local roads cope — particularly the A53?
• What about pressure on schools, GP services, and infrastructure?
• How will this affect the character of Market Drayton and the surrounding communities?
These are not small issues — they go to the heart of how our communities grow, and whether that growth is actually sustainable.
At the moment:
• No application has been submitted
• No decision has been made
• No formal consultation has begun
If an application does come forward, it will go through the proper planning process, where residents, parish councils, and consultees will all have the opportunity to make their views known.
As a member of the Northern Planning Committee, I must remain open-minded at this stage and cannot take a position before an application is formally considered. However, I can assure residents that any proposal of this scale will be subject to detailed scrutiny — particularly on infrastructure, highways, and overall impact.
In the meantime, I would strongly encourage residents to:
• Attend the consultation event on 22 June (Festival Drayton Centre, 2pm–7pm)
• Make their views known directly to the developer
• Stay engaged as this progresses
I will continue to keep residents updated and ensure you are aware the moment anything formally comes forward.
Best regards,
Cllr Brian Evans
