As final preparations get underway for the main parade celebrating 60 years of Notting Hill Carnival in West London, Saint Lucian Carnival Ambassadors Ezra D’Funmachine and Hollywood HP paid a courtesy visit to the High Commissioner of Saint Lucia, H.E. Anthony Severin, and staff of the Saint Lucia High Commission.

The visit provided an opportunity for meaningful conversations about Saint Lucian culture and entertainment, and the important role of bringing Saint Lucia’s cultural message to audiences in the UK and beyond.

The High Commission extends its best wishes to the cultural ambassadors, the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority and M2K Mas for a safe, successful and enjoyable Carnival.

On Tuesday 25 August 2026, the High Commissioner of Saint Lucia, H.E. Anthony Severin, attended the Healthcare AI & Surgical Robotics Showcase held at the University of Leeds.

The showcase provided an opportunity for three in-person students from The University of the West Indies (UWI) to present innovative research projects developed during an intensive eight-week programme at the University of Leeds, focused on healthcare AI and surgical robotics. The audience also gained insights into the work of more than 35 virtual students who successfully completed the programme.

The students showcased their research, including demonstrations of robotics in action, to the High Commissioner of Saint Lucia, H.E. Anthony Severin; the High Commissioner of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, H.E. J. M. Brereton Horne; professors, mentors, industry professionals, students and University colleagues.

CariSurg, now in its second year, was founded by Dr Nikita Greenidge, a Surgical Robotics Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Leeds. The programme is creating opportunities for Caribbean students to engage with emerging technologies and explore their potential application to healthcare in the region.

Guests also had the opportunity to visit the STORM Lab at the University of Leeds.

In his remarks, High Commissioner Severin highlighted that the work emerging from this initiative is of “tremendous promise for the future of health in our Caribbean”, adding that it continues to drive the development of the region's talent and identify those who will make meaningful contributions to its future.

Congratulations to Dr Nikita Greenidge, the CariSurg team and all the students who participated in this practical and inspiring initiative. We look forward to seeing how their ideas, research and innovation will contribute to the future of healthcare in the Caribbean and beyond.

On 1 August, we gathered to commemorate Emancipation Day 2026 through a thought-provoking panel discussion on the relevance of Emancipation Day to the Caribbean Diaspora in the UK.

The discussion challenged us to become students of our own history, and to look beyond the narratives we have inherited. It also encouraged us to understand the depth of our presence and contribution, and to take greater ownership of the stories we share about ourselves.

One powerful reminder was that people have been in Britain long before . Our history here is deeper, richer and more complex than the stories that are often told. Understanding that gives us the opportunity to amplify our true and ensure that the contributions, experiences and voices of Caribbean people are fully recognised.

is more than looking back. It is about knowing our history, reclaiming our narrative and moving forward with greater confidence and purpose.

To commemorate Emancipation Day 2026, the Saint Lucia High Commission in partnership with the Recreators Agency hosted an impactful and catalytic panel discussion exploring the relevance of the day for the Caribbean Diaspora in the UK. The session encouraged meaningful engagement with our history and inspired participants to move forward boldly. The panel featured a diverse group of individuals of Caribbean heritage residing in the UK, representing various fields (see image attached).

Also attached is an image highlighting one‑word reflections from registrants across several countries in response to the question: “What does Emancipation Day mean to you?”

Heartfelt thanks to all the speakers, panellists, and attendees whose presence enriched the discussion and contributed to this meaningful conversation.

Today we celebrate an extraordinary milestone, 99 remarkable years of life, leadership, and legacy for Ms. Jessie Stephens. A stalwart of the Saint Lucian diaspora, whose presence and contributions have left an indelible mark on the United Kingdom and Saint Lucia. Her dedication, resilience, and cultural pride have shaped communities, inspired generations, and strengthened the bridge between Saint Lucia and the UK.

As we honour this incredible journey, we give thanks for her wisdom, service, and the example set.
