White City Adventure Playground

White City Adventure Playground Adventure Playground of the Year 2014 at the London Play Awards! White City offers open access sessions in school holidays & a term-time after-school club.

*The play project is now run by non-profit organisation, the Play Association. The adventure playground in White City provides both after school play sessions and free open access school holiday play provision. We also undertake play development work in the local area and work with a range of organisations in order to promote the importance of play and playwork. In open access play provision (all

school holidays, 10am - 5pm, Mon-Fri) children are not restricted in their movements, other than where related to safety matters, and are not prevented from coming and going from the setting as and when they wish. Playworkers do not have the responsibility to ensure that children stay on site for a specified period of time. Open access play provision should therefore not be confused with childcare. Our after school play sessions run from Monday to Friday from 3-6pm. We collect children from ARK Swift, St John XXIII and Wormholt Park schools and escort them to the playground (although we also accept children from other schools if parents can arrange for them to get to us). We offer a space in which children can play freely. During the second half of this three hour period we now also run free open access sessions Monday - Friday between 4:30pm and 6pm. The two sessions coincide.

Funniest thing I've heard all week: a boy comes running up to me at after school club saying, 'Come quickly, come quickly. Lucas has accidentally been cellotaped to a pole!!' (Right, accidentally twenty times around as well!) :)

Great article made by White Noise that follows the interview to our Adventure Team Leader Joel on the role of Playwork. Have a read if you are interested in understanding the importance of play for children! :-)

Eroded by traffic and the fear of stranger danger, places for children to roam have been disappearing from urban environments for decades. Enter compensatory spaces: playgrounds without an agenda, which allow for the open-ended exploration that once happened on street corners.

It's really good to get positive feedback about the adventure playground, as experienced at our recent campfire event. Thanks, Ella The Great :)
