Did you know that just 12 plants and 5 animal species make up 75% of the worldโ€™s current diet? ๐ŸŒฟ

Eating a greater variety of plants doesnโ€™t just bring more flavours and textures to our plates, it can also help support biodiversity and strengthen food security.

Thatโ€™s the idea behind the latest Kew cookbook, written by Jenny Linford. It brings together 65 salad recipes celebrating the incredible variety of edible plants ๐Ÿฅ—

Happy Sunflower season! ๐ŸŒป Did you know...

๐Ÿ’› They might look like one big flower, but each sunflower is actually made up of hundreds of tiny flowers called 'florets'

๐Ÿ’› Sunflowers are nature's detoxifiers, they can remove toxic elements from soils, like lead and uranium and have been used in clean-up operations at both Chernobyl and Fukushima

๐Ÿ’› It's widely believed they follow the sun but only immature buds move east to west, mature flowers always face east

We'd love to see your best sunflower photos, drop them in the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Three things you might not know about tomatoes ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŒŽ Tomatoes originate from South America and were introduced to Europe by Spanish colonists in the 16th century

๐ŸŒฟ As members of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), tomatoes were thought to be poisonous in Europe and were grown as ornamental plants

๐Ÿ“ Tomatoes are botanically berries and considered fruits, but were classified as vegetables by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1893 for tax purposes

Have you grown tomatoes of your own? We'd love to see them! ๐Ÿ‘‡
