LONDON CITY SENDS FINAL SHALLOWER APPROACH PLANS TO CAA FOR APPROVAL

Earlier than expected London City has submitted it final proposals to introduce shallower approaches to cater for larger planes on its final approach paths to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for approval. The plans are unchanged from those City consulted on in spring.

It says in its submission to the CAA:

After reviewing the feedback and considering if it would impact the Full Options Appraisal analysis methodologies, none of the feedback we received caused changes. We confirm that the original assumptions, worksheets, data sources and technical annexes all remain valid.

We conclude that, considering the overall noise impacts of each option, the with-change option is preferable to the without-change option.

The CAA will now make its decision in September.

London City has published its analysis of responses to the recent consultation on shallower flight paths. City will submit its final proposals to the CAA early Sept. CAA decision late 2026.

A seminal new report on the impact of night noise for the Department for Transport by a team led by Professor Charlotte Clark was published last week.
The study has two parts. Just the first part has been published. It was a large-scale survey carried out among residents living around eight UK airports to assess the impact of night flights on sleep disturbance and annoyance.
The second part, to be published later, will look at sleep disturbance in more detail.
The eight airports studied were:
Bristol Airport (BRS)
East Midlands Airport (EMA)
Glasgow Airport (GLA)
London Gatwick Airport (LGW)
London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
London Stansted Airport (STN)
London Luton Airport (LTN)
Manchester Airport (MAN)
The findings
30% of people indicated that they were bothered, disturbed, or annoyed by road traffic;
24% by aircraft/airports/airfield noise;
22% by neighbours outside their homes;
14% by neighbours inside their homes.

Newham: from Labour to No Overall Control (NOC). I think it is likely that the Independents and Greens will combine to the control. Labour Mayor.

Waltham Forest: The big surprise. Labour virtually wiped out by the Greens.

Barking and Dagenham: Labour retain control with a reduced majority

Havering: Reform win

Bexley: Conservatives retain control

Bromley: Conservatives retain control

Greenwich: Labour retain control

Lewisham: Result due this morning. Green Mayor elected

Southwark: Labour lose to NOC. Likely Greens and Lib Dems will take control.

Lambeth: Still counting! Too close to call but Labour losing seats to Greens and Lib Dems

Westminster: Conservative gain from Labour

Tower Hamlets: Results expected this morning. Aspire retains Mayor.

Hackney: Greens win Council and Mayor from Labour

A reminder that the first of City Airport's consultation drop-in events on its plans to introduce shallower flight paths will take place tomorrow (Thursday 9th April). Drop in any time between 3pm and 7pm. Idea Store, Chrisp Street, Tower Hamlets, E14 6BT
