This autumn, we are delighted to support the exhibition ‘Cecilia Vicuña: Living Threads’ presented by Whitechapel Gallery – the first major UK exhibition of one of Chile’s most internationally renowned artists, poets and eco-feminist activists.

Spanning six decades, the exhibition explores Vicuña’s interdisciplinary practice across painting, textile, photography, installation and film. From her early ‘precarios’ and paintings made in London in the 1970s, to her acclaimed ‘quipu’ works, the exhibition traces her ongoing engagement with displacement, political violence, ecological loss and Indigenous systems of knowledge.

Alongside the ticketed exhibition, ‘Cecilia Vicuña: Foraging Quipu’ will be on display for free. Created through a public call for contributions, this large-scale installation brings together plant matter, found objects and materials to form a suspended ‘quipu.’

Supported by the Directorate of Culture, Art, Heritage and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile.

📷 Patagonia: Peoples of the End of the World

This week, we had the pleasure of opening of Faces and Traces from the End of the World: Indigenous Peoples of Patagonia, a photographic exhibition featuring a selection of historic images from the collection of Chile’s Museo Histórico Nacional.

The evening brought together a widely international audience, photography and history enthusiasts, and members of the wider public, all interested in discovering more about the peoples and cultures of Chilean Patagonia.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Ambassador Diego Paulsen, followed by a fascinating presentation by the exhibition’s curator, Chilean photographer and designer Jorge Subiabre.

Jorge shared insights into the historical and cultural significance of this remarkable photographic archive, while introducing the audience to the Selknam, Kawésqar, Yagan and Aonikenk peoples - their traditions, ways of life and relationship with the extraordinary landscapes of Patagonia. He also explored fascinating connections between these cultures and other civilisations and traditions around the world.

A wonderful evening of history, photography and cultural discovery - accompanied, of course, by a glass of Chilean w**e. 🇨🇱📷🍷

The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile through its Division of Culture, Arts, Heritage and Public Diplomacy.

The exhibition can be visited until Thursday 8th October, on weekdays between 9.30am and 5.00pm.

Yesterday, the Embassy of Chile in the United Kingdom, led by Ambassador Diego Paulsen, commemorated our National Day with a celebration that brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and friends of Chile. 🇨🇱🤝🇬🇧

The official reception featured the national anthems of Chile and the United Kingdom, followed by remarks from Ambassador Diego Paulsen and Catherine O’Neill, Deputy Director of the Latin America and Caribbean Department at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

This gathering was an opportunity to celebrate our identity and the ties that unite Chile and the UK.

🙏 We thank everyone who joined us and helped make this special celebration of our National Day so memorable.

This week we celebrated the London launch of Hispanic Coetzee: World Literature Beyond the Anglosphere, the new book by Chilean researcher, author and translator Cristóbal Pérez Barra.

Through an exploration of Coetzee's relationship with the Hispanic literary tradition - including Cervantes, Borges and Pablo Neruda - Cristóbal invites us to reconsider one of the world's great contemporary writers beyond an exclusively Anglophone lens.

We were delighted to welcome David Gallagher, former Ambassador of Chile to the UK, back to the Embassy where he served from 2018 to 2022.

Following a brief introduction to the book, David and Cristóbal engaged in a fascinating conversation on Coetzee, translation, literary influence and world literature.

Today, the members of the Grupo de Señoras Chilenas (Group of Chilean Ladies) were welcomed by Ambassador Diego Paulsen during their monthly meeting at the Embassy.

They discussed the importance of organisations such as this one in bringing Chileans together in the UK, maintaining an active connection with their home country, and supporting communities in need in Chile through fundraising - something the Group of Chilean Ladies has been doing successfully for decades.

The officers of the Chilean Air Force (Fuerza Aérea De Chile) who served as Visiting Fellows at the RUSI - Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Diego Paulsen, upon completing their academic research on topics of strategic relevance to the institution.

The visit took place in the company of Chile's Air Attaché to the United Kingdom, Group Captain Rodrigo Grunert, highlighting the value of these opportunities for academic cooperation, professional exchange, and the international engagement of the Chilean Air Force.

🇨🇱🔬 Ambassador Diego Paulsen welcomed Florencia Cortés, Raimundo Illanes and Monsterrat Sierra, students from Capellán Pascal School in Viña del Mar, who are representing Chile at the 67th London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) 2026.

The students shared with the Ambassador their experience delivering a presentation at the Research Poster Project Session and taking part in the Science Forum Bazaar, where they had a chance to share their talent and innovative ideas.

Congratulations to Florencia, Raimundo and Montserrat on representing Chile with excellence and inspiring us all to keep shaping the future through science! 👏✨

Ambassador Diego Paulsen presented his credentials to IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Domínguez, officially becoming Chile's Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization - IMO). 🇨🇱🌊

This milestone reaffirms Chile's strong commitment to the International Maritime Organization's work in advancing maritime safety, environmental protection and sustainable shipping.

As a nation with a deep maritime vocation, Chile recognises the IMO's vital role in shaping global shipping standards; considering more than 90% of our exports are transported by sea.
Chile has been a member of the IMO since 1972, has served on its Council (Category C) since 2001, and was re-elected for the 2026–2027 term.
