Thank you to everyone in who supported the Lib Dems at the local elections last week. Whilst we didn’t quite make it over the line this time, we’re proud of our campaign.

Together, .aggarwal.ld, .doran and received 2,712 votes – that’s up 629 when compared to 2022! And we maintained the Lib Dems’ share of the vote at 21.49%.

We couldn’t have done this without the hard work and support of our team of volunteers, friends and family over many weeks and months – thank you. 🔶

Campaigning for affordable homes at Canada Water, safer streets and better services.

Here, it’s always a two-horse race between the Liberal Democrats and Labour.

We’re extremely disappointed by the news from Labour at City Hall: that the developer has permission to build just 9% affordable homes as part of the Canada Water Masterplan.

Lib Dems will continue to stand up for local residents and this isn’t the end of our campaign. You can still back our 35% affordable new homes petition (link in bio) as we keep holding the developer, Southwark Council and the Greater London Authority to account.

Southwark Liberal Democrats are proud to announce our Rotherhithe Liberal Democrats team for Rotherhithe in May 2026: Vikas Aggarwal, Sorcha Ní Chonghaile and JK Doran.

They are already campaigning on the issues residents raise most often: securing genuinely affordable homes through the Canada Water masterplan, restoring a local police hub, and creating one-stop shops so residents can more easily access council services.

Vikas Aggarwal brings a background in national security, sustainability and supporting small businesses. He is a dedicated community volunteer at Salmon Youth Club and has been working to hold developers, Southwark Council and the Mayor of London to account to ensure the promised 35% affordable housing at Canada Water is delivered.

Sorcha Ní Chonghaile is an experienced Early Years and Special Educational Needs teacher currently completing a master’s in Education Public Policy. Having lived in Southwark’s social housing, she has first-hand experience of the borough’s failings as a landlord and is determined to fight for safe, secure and dignified homes.

JK Doran is a communications and engagement specialist and active community organiser. He founded his hometown’s first LGBTQIA+ Pride and is continuing to campaign for the return of a police hub in Rotherhithe to help tackle antisocial behaviour.

Together, our Rotherhithe team is working all year round for residents and ready to deliver even more as councillors.
