Looe Town Council have joined forces with the Cornwall Councillors for East and West Looe, Cllr Armand Toms and Cllr Edwina Hannaford, The Rusty Bucket, Looe Valley Rotary Club, Looe Development Trust and the Cornwall Community Foundation to pool resources to provide a community hardship fund for Looe.
The £7000.00 fund is designed to help people in Looe Parish who have been negatively affected by the Covid19 pandemic and just need a little bit of help.
Cllr Armand Toms said, “We know that many people in the community are really struggling. Some people have either lost their jobs, are on significantly reduced wages or having to rely on benefits, sometimes for the first time in their lives.”
Cllr Edwina Hannaford said, “The fund is designed to offer a helping hand at this very difficult time. We can offer partial support towards your mortgage or rent, utility bills, or costs of travel to work and even contribute to replace essential household or personal items and food.”
The Mayor of Looe Cllr Martin Gregory said, “It became very apparent through Looe Town Councils Covid19 support network that some people are really going through a hard time. This pooling of resources from the Cornwall Council’s councillor community chest and the Cornwall Community Foundation will enable us to get help to those most in need.”
You can make an application for assistance by filling in a simple online form on the Looe Town Council website www.looetowncouncil.gov.uk under the grey Covid19 Forms tab. If you need to talk through your needs you can call Rusty Bucket on 07896515334 or if you have limited credit on your phone you can text this number and someone will call you back within 24hours.
The Mayor concluded, “We are very grateful for the financial contributions of Cornwall Council, Looe Valley Rotary Club and Cornwall Community Foundation and The Rusty Bucket and Looe Development Trust who are administering the fund on our behalf.” “This is a great example of a community coming to get help to help those in need.”
