π Drowning Prevention Week 2026 π
13thβ20th June is Drowning Prevention Week, a national campaign led by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) to raise awareness of water safety and help prevent drowning.
At Magna Vitae, our swimming lesson programme will be supporting the campaign by delivering water safety-focused lessons throughout the week, helping children build confidence, awareness and vital lifesaving skills ahead of the summer.
π What will be happening?
π Stages 1β3
Children will take part in fun activities focused on:
β Floating and staying calm in the water
β Safe entries and exits
β Water safety games and rescue awareness
π Stages 4β10
Children will experience swimming in lightweight clothing to help them understand how being clothed affects movement and buoyancy in the water.
Please bring:
β
A t-shirt and lightweight shorts or trousers, or light pyjamas
β
A spare towel
β
A bag for wet clothing
β Hoodies, jeans and heavy materials are not permitted for safety reasons.
Throughout the week, swimmers will learn valuable skills including:
π How to float and stay calm
π What to do if they unexpectedly enter the water
π How to call for help
π Basic rescue awareness
Together, we can help children stay safer around water this summer.
