A man has been sentenced for organising a burglary at a commercial premises in Louth from his prison cell.
A man has been sentenced to a total of three years and one month imprisonment for commercial burglary (18 months) and multiple traffic offences (19 months) carried out in Lincolnshire Police and Norfolk Constabulary respectively.
Lloyd Hook, 31, of HMP Norwich, appeared at Norwich Crown Court on 25 June 2026.
The court heard that Hook had pleaded guilty to playing a key role in orchestrating a commercial burglary at a self-storage container site in Long Sutton from his prison cell in September 2024, as well as being involved in multiple traffic-related offences in Norfolk in January 2026.
It was determined that Hook had had direct contact with a man who carried out the burglary with another accomplice, before, during and after the burglary took place. The offenders had gained entry to the storage compound using a code that was known to Hook as his partner had a rented container on the site. This code was passed to the man carrying out the burglary and photos and videos were sent back to Hook in his prison cell detailing what items there were inside and what they were stealing. Hook made sure to pass details of his container so that they did not break into this one. The two suspects made several journeys in different vehicles to transfer the stolen equipment to another location. A total of 19 containers were broken into with one victim losing around £8,000-worth of items from their container.
Meanwhile, a phone was seized from a separate burglary the following day, but evidential difficulties meant that we could not proceed with this offence. However, the material found on the phone showed the offenders committing the burglary at the storage facility the day before and once the link with Hook was established from the seized prison phone, we were able to show that Hook had instigated and organised this commercial burglary.
On 17 October 2024, an iPhone was seized from the single cell occupied by Hook at HMP Highpoint. The burglaries at the commercial site were initially investigated, but it was only after the link was made to the phone recovered from Hook in prison that we were able to demonstrate he had orchestrated the entire operation from his cell.
A detailed investigation reviewing all the material from this phone was then carried out in November 2025.
In the meantime, Hook had been released from prison on licence and had been spotted by Norfolk Constabulary colleagues on 20 January 2026 as he was driving a stolen Land Rover Discovery Sport on cloned registration plates.
He failed to stop for police, leading to a pursuit through Downham Market, Norfolk. Eventually Hook stopped driving and attempted to flee on foot, finally being apprehended by officers where he was arrested for multiple offences: dangerous driving, possession of a class B drug (cannabis), driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
Lincolnshire Police were made aware of this arrest and Hook was subsequently charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary by Lincolnshire police.
🗣️ Detective Sergeant Adam Petty of the Serious and Organised Crime Unit who led the commercial burglary investigation, said: "This commercial burglary was a calculated offence, planned and directed from within a prison cell, targeting a storage unit in Long Sutton. What’s particularly concerning in this case is that the offender believed he could operate with impunity from inside a prison cell. He directed the burglary, attempting to stay one step removed from the crime. We make it clear, that even behind bars, you will be held accountable."
