🌸🌼 WILD FLOWERS 🌼 🌸

We are so excited for the Reed Pond as it’s just had a glow-up! (Or a grow-up - get it?)

45sqm of our land has just been planted with wildflowers!
There’s now 140 pots of: wild carrot, one eye daisy, field scabious and musk mallow planted on the reserve! Plus 360 plugs of yellow rattle.

All plants bought through a successful Wilder Trent grant application!! 💷

Thanks to everyone involved in the application process through to the physical planting of these yesterday!

It goes without saying to please keep yourselves and your dogs to the paths so we can give our plants the best chance of surviving!

Can’t wait for them to make this space glorious!!! 🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼

Volunteering Opportunity - Sat 21st Feb!

We have arranged, weather permitting, a volunteer day planting all the free hedgerow plants and trees on the Eastern Boundary. All the trees, including canes and guard protectors, were supplied free by the Woodland Trust, and as a group we are really grateful.

Work will take place tomorrow - Saturday 21st February, weather permitting, from 10am - tea/coffee, cake and biscuits provided.

All volunteers need to bring are thick gloves, spade and a smile 😊

Thanks xx

PLEASE READ!

It’s crucial that, if you visit the Reed Pond, you adhere to the instructions on the signage as to how to secure the gates after passing through!

We use sheep to graze the area, and their security and safety are a priority for us!

Please help keep them safe x

VOLUNTEER DAY END OF JAN!

Can’t get the staff around here to post things up in a timely manner (apologies 😂🤪) so here are a few belated pics of the work done on the Volunteering day on Jan 24th!

Sensitive and timely management of the reeds in the pond is crucial for the Reed Pond. Balancing the preservation of habitat and the health of the actual pond is a juggling act. With advice from other agencies, we choose carefully when, where and how many of the reeds to remove! It’s a wet and soggy job - but our volunteers and committee did a great job!

Also, the pesky deers are seeming to enjoy a good nibble on our orchard saplings! So more robust fencing has been constructed to protect the trees as the grow!

Many thanks to all who helped out xx

🌾 VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY 🌾

We are asking for volunteers to help us with Reed Management and removal this Saturday 24th January 10-1pm down at Lamble Reed Pond Nature Reserve.

Volunteers should wear wellington boots or similar, bring gloves, shears, rake, secateurs if they have them available. We will provide eye protection glasses.

Also there will be the usual refreshments offered and yummy homemade biscuits 🍪

If we get enough volunteers, we are looking at also completing the work needed to protect the orchard trees.

Thanks

A very productive weekend down at the Reed Pond! Thanks to our volunteers, members of the committee and Reed Pond group for braving the rain and weather yesterday and today.

They’ve cleared the culvert, created log piles and dead hedges and created a hibernaculum where amphibians can hibernate over winter - there’s been a real focus on the creation of habitats around the reserve.

Recently, we have also removed some reeds from the pond in consultation with a number of experts and under strict direction. As it has always been, our focus is set on the long term management of the reserve as a space for wildlife and our community.

Thanks again to those who gave up their weekend for the Reed Pond: Jody Stoll, Autumn, Sofia, Janet, Bonnie, Sarah, Christine, Stephen, Steve, Ian and Karen!

* HELP NEEDED *

Saturday 22nd Nov and/or Sunday 23rd Nov - anytime you can spare between 10am and 3pm on either or both days.

We’re going to be preparing the ground near/around the woodland for planting and possibly creating some habitats with the logs we have.

The planting will take place on Weds 26th with Miriam Lawley from Notts Wildlife Trust from 10-3pm also. We have lots if volunteers for this day already, but not so many for the actual prep for the day!

Cake and refreshments provided as always. You’ll need good gloves, some clippers and a fork/spade/rake if you have.

Please come along if you can - many hands make light work x
