Tower Street, Ludlow - Access Only Reminder

As part of our commitment to keeping roads safe and supporting local traffic priorities in Ludlow, we'd like to remind motorists about the restrictions in place on Tower Street.

1. What do we want the public to know?
Tower Street is not a through route or cut-through road. From the Corve Street/Old Street end, the road is clearly signed as "Access Only", meaning it should only be used by vehicles requiring access to properties or premises on the street. From the Galdeford end, a "No Entry" restriction is in place and must not be ignored.
These restrictions are designed to manage traffic flow, improve road safety, and reduce unnecessary vehicle movements in the town centre.

2. How do we want the public to feel?
We want residents and visitors to feel confident that road signage and traffic regulations are there to improve safety and help protect the character of Ludlow's historic streets. By following the restrictions, motorists can help make the area safer and more accessible for everyone.

3. What do we want the public to do?
Please take notice of the signage and use appropriate routes when travelling through Ludlow. If you have concerns about road safety or local traffic issues, please let us know via

A man who has been stealing from Ludlow stores for five months has been handed a suspended sentence at court this week.

Finley Hill, of Milton Road in Ludlow, was arrested on Sunday (11 October) by officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team after he was seen taking 10 legs of lamb worth £200 from Sainsbury’s on Dun Cow Road the previous day.

Since May of this year the 28-year-old has targeted Sainsbury’s and One Stop on Gravel Hill taking various items including coffee, washing powder, toiletries and alcohol.

Hill was charged with 22 counts of theft from stores and appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Monday (12 October) where he pleaded guilty to the offences.

The magistrate handed Hill a 17-week sentence, suspended for two years, as well ordered him to pay £154 in court fees. Hill was also given two eight-week sentences, suspended for two years to run concurrently for failing to appear at court.

Sergeant Dougal Bell, from the Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime, it has a significant impact on businesses, staff and the wider community.

“Hill repeatedly targeted stores in Ludlow over a number of months, and we worked closely with retailers to gather evidence and bring him before the courts. We hope this sentence sends a clear message that persistent offenders will be identified, arrested and prosecuted.”

A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempt murder following an incident in Ludlow on Sunday (4 October).

Carl Phasey, of Greenacres in Ludlow, was charged with the offence, as well as possessing an offensive weapon. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Telford Magistrates Court today (Wednesday 7 October).

A 47-year-old man, who was arrested on Monday (5 October) on suspicion of possessing a sh***un or imitation fi***rm with intent to cause fear of violence, relating to the incident has been released on bail.

Officers investigating an incident in Ludlow, where a man was stabbed, are appealing for witnesses to help with their enquiries.

At around 6.40pm yesterday (Sunday 4 October) officers were called to Weyman Road following reports of an assault involving three men.

When officers arrived they discovered a man, aged 37, had suffered stab wounds. He was taken to hospital for further treatment and has since been discharged. No arrests have been made at this time.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident as they may be able to assist with their investigation.

Detective Inspector Chloe Jones said: “We understand an incident of this nature will cause concern in the local community, and I would like to reassure residents that our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“While these enquiries continue, people may notice an increased police presence in the area. Our officers are there to provide reassurance as well as carry out enquiries, so please do speak to them if you have any concerns.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Weyman Road area at around 6.40pm yesterday and may have seen or heard anything that could assist our investigation. Even if you think the information you have is insignificant, please get in touch.”

WARRANT | Arrest made after Ludlow drugs warrant

A man has been arrested in Ludlow this morning (Thursday 1 October) following intelligence-led drugs warrants.

Officers carried out the searches at a property on Weyman Road and Chestnut Grove earlier today.

A quantity of class A and class B drugs were discovered at the addresses, as well as a number of offensive weapons.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of class A drugs.

He remains in police custody. Officers will also be dealing with another man in connection with the warrants.

Sergeant Dougal Bell from the Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Our officers had been gathering intelligence for a number of months in relation to the warrants, and now subsequent investigations.

“We will continue to crack down on suspected drug activity in our town.”

🚨 Appeal for Information – Attempted Van Theft in Ludlow 🚨

We are appealing for information following an attempted theft of a Ford Transit van from Potter Close, Ludlow, at approximately 10:09pm on 23 September 2026.

It was reported that three unknown males, wearing black clothing with hoods up and ski masks, attempted to steal the vehicle. The offenders caused damage to the lock on the van door and underneath the steering wheel before being disturbed by a neighbour. They are believed to have then fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.

This is part of the library's regular monthly community events and provides an opportunity for residents to speak directly with local officers and PCSOs about any concerns, issues, or priorities affecting the area. These events support the West Mercia Police Community Charter by ensuring local policing remains visible, accessible, and responsive to community needs.
