Following the fantastic response to our announcement, we’re pleased to remind everyone that the first Men Like Us meeting at Ludlow Fire Station takes place this Tuesday.

Men Like Us provides a friendly, informal and supportive space for men affected by cancer to meet others who understand, have a chat and support one another.

🚒 Ludlow Fire Station Welcomes Men Like Us 💙

We’re really pleased to announce that Men Like Us will now be using Ludlow Fire Station to hold their monthly meetings.

Men Like Us is a local support group for men living with or affected by cancer, providing a friendly and informal environment where men can meet, talk and support one another.

Whether you’ve recently been diagnosed, are undergoing treatment, living with cancer or simply want to talk with others who understand, Men Like Us is there to offer friendship, conversation and support. 💙

📅 First Tuesday of every month
⏰ 2:00pm – 4:00pm

There’s no pressure or expectation — simply come along, have a cuppa and a chat. ☕️

The move to Ludlow Fire Station also has an important benefit for the group, with the facilities being provided at no financial cost. This allows Men Like Us to save valuable funds and use them where they can make the greatest difference to the group and its members.

The partnership has been brought together by Graham Cheshire from Men Like Us and Crew Manager Olie Powis, with a shared aim of providing a welcoming and sustainable home for the group’s monthly meetings.

We’ve just returned to station after a fantastic afternoon supporting the Family Fun Day at Ludlow Cricket Club! 🏏☀️

It was great to see so many families enjoying the day, and we loved welcoming plenty of young visitors (and a few not-so-young ones! 😄) to have a look around the fire engine and chat with the crew. 🚒👨‍🚒

A huge thank you to everyone at Ludlow Cricket Club for inviting us along and for the fantastic hospitality.

It’s always a pleasure to get out and support events within our local community. ❤️

🌧️🚗 DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN – THINK BEFORE YOU TRAVEL 🚗🌧️

With periods of heavy rain, we’re reminding everyone to take extra care on the roads and consider whether your journey is really necessary.

Before setting off:

🌧️ Check the weather and road conditions

🚗 Reduce your speed and increase the distance from the vehicle ahead

💡 Use dipped headlights when visibility is poor

⚠️ Be prepared for standing water and localised flooding

💦 Avoid driving through flood water – you don’t know how deep it is or what condition the road is in underneath

🛑 Never ignore road closure signs

If you come across flood water, turn around and find another route.

A few extra minutes planning your journey could prevent an emergency.

Drive to the conditions. Slow down. Stay safe. 🚒

🚒🔥 A Very Busy Spell for us here at Ludlow over 40 incidents 🔥🚒

With the continued hot and extremely dry conditions, our firefighters at Ludlow have experienced a particularly busy period, with a noticeable increase in outdoor and countryside fires.

Looking back through July and the first part of August, crews have attended a wide range of incidents, including:

🔥 Numerous fires in the open
🌾 Multiple standing corn/crop fires
🚜 Multiple field/stubble fires
🏚️ Barn fire
🏠 Building and house fires
🚛 Large vehicle fire
🔥 Burning of waste
🚨 Several automatic fire alarm (AFA) and smoke detector activations
💨 Reports of smoke in the area
⚠️ Gas leak
🌊 Water rescue
🚑 Assisting Ambulance colleagues / gaining entry

The figures show just how much the dry weather has affected our local area.

☀️🌾 We’re therefore asking everyone to seriously consider whether you need to have a BBQ, bonfire or any other open flame while conditions remain this dry.

🚫 Please avoid disposable BBQs altogether in the countryside, woodland, fields or around dry vegetation.

Something as simple as a spark, hot coal or discarded cigarette can ignite dry grass and vegetation. In these conditions, fire can spread incredibly quickly and develop into a significant incident requiring multiple fire crews and resources.

🌒 The demand has continued right through this week. While many people were outside watching the solar eclipse, our crew were being mobilised to Clee Hill to deal with reports of a fire in the open. 🔥🚒

Please help us reduce the risk:

🔥 Give the BBQ or fire pit a miss during periods of extreme dry weather.
🚫 Don’t light bonfires or burn garden waste.
🚬 Never discard ci******es onto the ground or from a vehicle.
🌾 Keep any source of ignition well away from fields, crops and dry vegetation.
📞 If you discover a fire, get to a safe location and call 999 immediately.

🙏 Please help us protect our countryside, support our farming community and reduce unnecessary demand on emergency services.

While everything is this dry, please think twice before lighting anything outdoors.

🔥 Fire Safety Message – Wheeler Road Park 🔥

We have received reports of small fires being started in Wheeler Road Park. While these may seem harmless, fires can quickly spread, causing damage to the park, nearby property, wildlife habitats, and putting people at risk.

1️⃣ What do we want the public to know?
Your local Safer Neighbourhood Team is aware of reports of fires at Wheeler Road Park and will continue to work with partners to help keep the area safe. Promoting fire safety supports our commitment to reducing anti-social behaviour and protecting community spaces, in line with local policing priorities.

2️⃣ How do we want the public to feel?
We want residents to feel reassured that reports are taken seriously and that everyone can play a part in keeping our parks safe and enjoyable for all. By working together, we can help prevent unnecessary risks and damage to community assets.

3️⃣ What do we want the public to do?
✅ Never leave fires or BBQs unattended.
✅ Ensure ci******es are fully extinguished and disposed of responsibly.
✅ Speak to young people about the dangers of setting fires.
✅ Report any concerns about fires, anti-social behaviour, or suspicious activity via https://www.neighbourhoodmatters.co.uk.

It’s always great to be part of events that bring the local community together, and we’ll be on hand throughout the day showcasing our fire appliance and answering any questions you may have.

Whether you’re taking part, cheering from the sidelines or simply coming along to enjoy the atmosphere, we hope you all have a brilliant day.
