A very emotional drill night for the team at Ludlow Fire Station last night as we celebrated the retirement of Watch Manager Glynn Davies, who hangs up his fire kit for the very last time today.

25-11-1994 - 31-05-2026

Glynn has dedicated an incredible 31.5 years of service to the community of Ludlow, helping those in need, protecting lives and property, and serving with professionalism, commitment and pride throughout his career.

This outstanding achievement has only been possible with the unwavering support of his family, friends and colleagues, who have been by his side throughout his Fire Service journey.

Over the years, Glynn has made a lasting impact on Ludlow Fire Station and our community, not only through his operational service but also through the guidance, support and development he has provided to countless firefighters and colleagues.

On behalf of everyone at Ludlow Fire Station, thank you for your dedication, leadership and friendship.

We wish you a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.

This weeks Ludlow Young Farmers Club visit to our station 🙂

Yesterday morning at approximately 10:45am, our crew were mobilised to reports of a house fire within the town.

Whilst firefighters were responding to the station from their homes and places of work, it was evident that this was a well-developed fire 🔥 with large plumes of black smoke visible across the local area.

Thanks to the quick thinking, professionalism, and outstanding actions of our firefighters,the fire was successfully contained, limiting damage to the remainder of the property and preventing further fire spread to neighbouring homes.

The fire involved an external shed large conservatory and living room area.

We were assisted at the incident by our colleagues from Church Stretton Fire Station, Leintwardine Fire Station Leominster Fire Station and other specialist appliances and officers from around our county.

Thank you for your support and teamwork throughout the incident 🙏

We are pleased to confirm that there were no injuries reported.

This incident also highlights two extremely important fire safety messages:

🚨 Ensure you have working smoke alarms fitted within your property.

🚪 Close internal doors whenever possible.

As shown in the photographs below, a living room door which had been closed after the fire started significantly reduced smoke damage throughout the property and helped prevent further fire spread.

A simple action such as closing a door can make a huge difference in protecting lives and property.

The images shared have been authorised by the property owners to support fire safety awareness and help spread this important message within our community.

Thank you to the local community for your patience whilst crews remained on scene carrying out firefighting operations, damping down, and re-inspection work throughout the day. 🚒🔥

Tonight, we say goodbye and good luck to Firefighter Sam Nicholas, who has officially hung up his fire kit for the last time.

Sam began his journey with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service 7½ years ago, starting his career at Much Wenlock before shortly joining us here at Ludlow Fire Station.

On behalf of everyone at Ludlow, we would like to thank Sam for his service, dedication, and friendship over the years.

We wish him success and happiness in this next chapter.
