๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿš— DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN โ€“ THINK BEFORE YOU TRAVEL ๐Ÿš—๐ŸŒง๏ธ

With periods of heavy rain, weโ€™re reminding everyone to take extra care on the roads and consider whether your journey is really necessary.

Before setting off:

๐ŸŒง๏ธ Check the weather and road conditions

๐Ÿš— Reduce your speed and increase the distance from the vehicle ahead

๐Ÿ’ก Use dipped headlights when visibility is poor

โš ๏ธ Be prepared for standing water and localised flooding

๐Ÿ’ฆ Avoid driving through flood water โ€“ you donโ€™t know how deep it is or what condition the road is in underneath

๐Ÿ›‘ Never ignore road closure signs

If you come across flood water, turn around and find another route.

A few extra minutes planning your journey could prevent an emergency.

Drive to the conditions. Slow down. Stay safe. ๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ A Very Busy Spell for us here at Ludlow over 40 incidents ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

With the continued hot and extremely dry conditions, our firefighters at Ludlow have experienced a particularly busy period, with a noticeable increase in outdoor and countryside fires.

Looking back through July and the first part of August, crews have attended a wide range of incidents, including:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Numerous fires in the open
๐ŸŒพ Multiple standing corn/crop fires
๐Ÿšœ Multiple field/stubble fires
๐Ÿš๏ธ Barn fire
๐Ÿ  Building and house fires
๐Ÿš› Large vehicle fire
๐Ÿ”ฅ Burning of waste
๐Ÿšจ Several automatic fire alarm (AFA) and smoke detector activations
๐Ÿ’จ Reports of smoke in the area
โš ๏ธ Gas leak
๐ŸŒŠ Water rescue
๐Ÿš‘ Assisting Ambulance colleagues / gaining entry

The figures show just how much the dry weather has affected our local area.

โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒพ Weโ€™re therefore asking everyone to seriously consider whether you need to have a BBQ, bonfire or any other open flame while conditions remain this dry.

๐Ÿšซ Please avoid disposable BBQs altogether in the countryside, woodland, fields or around dry vegetation.

Something as simple as a spark, hot coal or discarded cigarette can ignite dry grass and vegetation. In these conditions, fire can spread incredibly quickly and develop into a significant incident requiring multiple fire crews and resources.

๐ŸŒ’ The demand has continued right through this week. While many people were outside watching the solar eclipse, our crew were being mobilised to Clee Hill to deal with reports of a fire in the open. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

Please help us reduce the risk:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Give the BBQ or fire pit a miss during periods of extreme dry weather.
๐Ÿšซ Donโ€™t light bonfires or burn garden waste.
๐Ÿšฌ Never discard ci******es onto the ground or from a vehicle.
๐ŸŒพ Keep any source of ignition well away from fields, crops and dry vegetation.
๐Ÿ“ž If you discover a fire, get to a safe location and call 999 immediately.

๐Ÿ™ Please help us protect our countryside, support our farming community and reduce unnecessary demand on emergency services.

While everything is this dry, please think twice before lighting anything outdoors.

๐Ÿš’ Thank you from everyone at TeamLU

We're asking everyone to help reduce the risk of accidental fires during this spell of hot, dry weather.๐ŸŒž
