🐾 Dogs on leads welcome The Castle is a ruin with rooms and towers to explore. It has one of only 5 nearly complete Norman Round Chapels which was re-roofed in 2019 and is now a very romantic wedding location. Ludlow Castle is open to visitors throughout

the year and hosts a variety of events. There are days where we are closed or on reduced opening hours so make sure you visit our website when planning your visit. We are also home to The Castle Cafe and The Castle Gallery, which are both free to enter.

Tomorrow evening at The Castle Bookshop in Ludlow (6pm), historian and author Danielle Burton will be giving a fascinating talk on the education of Edward, Prince of Wales, during his time at Ludlow Castle.

As heir to the throne, Edward spent part of his childhood at Ludlow under the guidance of his uncle, Anthony Woodville - one of the most influential and learned men of the age, and the subject of Danielle's debut book.

A wonderful opportunity to discover more about the people and stories that helped shape the castle's remarkable history.

Fun Fact Thursday - Did you know that just one well was the entire water source for Ludlow Castle?

It might not look particularly remarkable today, but for centuries this well was one of the most important places in the castle.

At around 120ft deep, it supplied water for the entire castle community and would have been crucial during times of siege.

Next time you visit, stand beside it and look up at the Great Tower behind you. The well is almost as deep as the tower is tall.

The View from the Stable Block 🐴

It's hard to picture today, but this would once have been one of the busiest places in Ludlow Castle. Horses were essential for travel, communication and carrying supplies. Everyone from royal messengers to visiting nobles would have relied upon them.

It's a rather quieter picture today!
