This morning I enjoyed the third of our Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service open days at Shrewsbury fire station.

The first hour was a quiet hour for SEND visitors, and whilst the rain decided to come down, it didn’t put off those determined to enjoy themselves : talking to firefighters, having a go in the fire engines, watching the live exercise of cutting people out of a car in a road traffic accident.

Partner agencies were there too Shropshire • Staffordshire • Cheshire Blood Bikes British Red Cross West Mercia Search & Rescue British Horse Society West Midlands Casualty Simulation Group the Police and Ambulance services who all work closely together to tackle critical situations across the county, and beyond in some instances.

We totally support this, our local community needs more employment, and in order to achieve this we need business to thrive. We need a national plan and also a local plan to support and encourage business.

This should extend to our . These give work experience and a community spirit. Enabling businesses to employ anyone, especially a young person, for any time or period would help out on so many levels.
