Here's a butterfly you might see flitting around your garden plants. It is the unmistakable butterfly.
Their caterpillars feed on Cuckooflower and Garlic mustard and although commonly found in gardens their eggs do not thrive when laid on plants such as honesty.
So the adult butterflies might love your garden plants for nectar but to complete their whole life cycle they need access to native wildflowers.

This is a butterfly. They are rather magnificent, being our largest native butterfly.
Today breeding populations are only found in the Norfolk Broads but occasionally migrants are found elsewhere in the UK.
They live in fenland habitats feeding on milk parsley. This is their only food plant so loss of this once common w**d in the countryside has had a dramatic impact on their population.
