By appointment, objects from our collections can be viewed and studied in our Research Room. We also offer Store Tours, which allow you to go behind the scenes, are also available by group appointment (charges apply). There is a free Exhibitions Gallery on the lower ground floor, which is open during building's opening times

Volunteering Opportunities:
Volunteers at Shropshire Museums Collections Centre are focused on cataloguing and digitising the collections to make them more accessible. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact us: [email protected] or 01743 250505

Learning Opportunities:
There are opportunities for learners of all ages at Shropshire Museums Collections Centre. Activities include curriculum linked workshops for schools and home educators, as well as adult education courses. Contact our Shrewsbury based Education Team: [email protected] or 01743 25881

Facilities Hire:
Our large Freezer and Conservation Lab are available to hire for pest management and conservation work, and groups or societies can hire our Education Room or Research Room for meetings. Please contact us for details: [email protected] or 01743 250505

Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS):
The Finds Liaison Officer for Shropshire and Herefordshire is based at Shropshire Museums Collections Centre. If you have found archaeological items, they can be brought in for identification and recording. There are also volunteering opportunities available with the PAS. It's during , when we celebrate the service and contribution to society that our armed forces make. This lovely little item is a woman's brass . It probably dates from the First World War and bears the insignia of the the Royal Artillery Regiment of the Army.
However there is a further cross over between women's hat pins and the military as it was well known at the time when hat pins were worn by most women, in order to secure their hats, that they could also come in very handy as a should one be needed!
Hats are also vital for staying safe in the sunshine- wear a hat and stay cool 😀

I love it when we get an insight into what happened in the past. This is a gunnery record for John Barlow, Naval Officer formerly of Berrington Shropshire and it is dated 25 June 1941, right at the height of the war whilst he was serving on the HMS Valiant. John went on the serve on several other Navy ships, throughout the war and indeed after the war.
As you can see his superior officer judged his conduct to be Very Good on discharge.

It's Armed Forces Week and these identity or dog tags and necklace belonged to Bertha Nason who served with the RAF during the Second World War. Bertha was stationed outside Shrewsbury throughout the War and these tags demonstrate how everyone serving was treated with equal seriousness, regardless of whether they saw action in the theatre of war or not.

It's and this is a mid 19th century woman's Chinese fan with a carved ivory frame. The over frame is decorated with carved figures and a dragon. The white feathers are hand painted with a floral border and central panel of golden pheasants. Great for cooling off in style during warm weather!

It's and this little bird is another , the Chiffchaff which journeys all the way from to in order to breed over the summer months. Although there are also resident populations in Britain, their numbers are boosted each year by the spring migrants. They have a very distinctive chiffchaff sounding song, which is where they get their name from!
This specimen was originally in the collections of but was transferred in the collections of in the Twentieth century.

open now exhibition Shropshire Museums Collections Centre all about the uniforms and clothing worn by Shropshire "Doctors and Nurses". In it you will see the clothes worn by local health professionals from history. You can discover the contents of a local Midwife's bag and see the difference between that and the midwifery bag used by Shropshire GPs. Discover strange Victorian contraptions for curing rheumatism, surgeons instruments and a hand cranked electric shock machine! See a range of historic photos including images of the wards at Ludlow Workhouse where the local poor were cared for before the advent of the NHS.
The exhibition is open now and is on in the costume gallery until July 2026.

It's and here we celebrate this man Edward Herbert who was knighted by James 1 in 1603 and swiftly became his lover. This portrait of him certainly conveys his charisma and charm which he did not hesitate to use to his own advantage in order to realise his political and social ambitions.
