This is what it's all about - activities that offer challenge, excitement and adventure and the knowledge you pick up along the way through structured lectures and first-hand experience. You’ll join 2465 Luton Icknield Squadron as a trial, when you get to know the other cadets and start basic training. You then get gradually introduced to activities as you progress, so you can make the most of every opportunity that comes your way.

This year is full of challenges for both staff and cadets at the 2465 Icknield Air Cadet Squadron as we work towards our fundraising target. Achieving this goal will help us purchase new equipment to enhance the training opportunities we can offer, enabling cadets to develop valuable life skills and gain recognised qualifications.

Our first challenge is the Tough Mudder event on 10th May, where three members of the squadron will be taking part. Please see the link below for more information and to support our team.

Congratulations to Cadet Corporal Morrinon a fantastic week at Camp Viking, a Regional Multi Activity Camp held at Longmoor Army Training Ground in Hampshire.

During the camp, Corporal Morrin took part in musical performances that met the requirements and standard for the Silver Drummers Badge, a well earned recognition of musical skill and dedication within the RAF Air Cadets.

As if that was not enough, he also achieved his Blue Space Badge, adding another feather to his cap and showing the variety of opportunities available through the cadet experience.

Well done for representing 2465 (Icknield) Squadron with such commitment and pride.

If you are aged between twelve and seventeen and want to challenge yourself, learn new skills, and take part in activities like this, come along to our next open evening on Thursday 11 September.

This week our cadets tackled a leadership-based activity filled with teamwork, coordination and communication. From guiding blindfolded teammates through obstacles to problem-solving under pressure, exercises like this are a fun and practical way to build confidence and leadership skills.

Command tasks are a regular feature of cadet training, and they bring plenty of smiles along with valuable experience.

🗺 Teamwork in Action: Lynx Look Exercise

This week our cadets got stuck into an exercise focused on map reading and spatial awareness, known as Lynx Look. Working together to piece together aerial images and build a complete operational picture, they demonstrated real teamwork, problem-solving and leadership.

Activities like this help our cadets develop core fieldcraft and navigation skills in a hands-on and engaging way. These are not just useful for the Air Cadets, but great life skills too.

✈ Taking Flight from the Squadron

Our cadets took to the virtual skies this week using our flight simulator setup, practising skills in navigation, approach and landing under realistic conditions. Whether flying through mountain valleys or perfecting touchdown scores, sessions like this are a fantastic way to build confidence and inspire interest in aviation.

It is all part of the Air Cadet experience – where learning meets fun, and future ambitions take shape.

📸 Banner Drill in the Evening Sunshine

Our cadets have been working hard this week, developing their ceremonial skills on the parade square with a focused session of banner drill. As the sun set behind them and standards were held high, their teamwork, discipline and pride in their uniform truly stood out.

Moments like these are a reminder that the smart turnout and steady pace we see on parade do not happen by chance. They are the result of practice, commitment and attention to detail.
