Ashby Magna Parish Council meeting minutes - 21/5/26
* Over the past few years AMPC have had a programme of replacing/repairing the lampposts in the village. We are nearly there. There are 3 left to do but unfortunately the hold up is outside organisations delaying quotes for isolating them so that work can be completed.
* AMPC has been awarded a grant to place lighting on the side of the village hall to help illuminate the pavement. This is hoped to be completed soon
* Free AED and CPR training coming to the village later this year. All invited. More information to follow.
* LCC have been out to look at the leaking water on Holt Lane. This is going to be chased to see if they are coming out again.
* Thanks to Paul Heath we have a lovely refurbished telephone box. The bookcase is going to be extended soon to allow for more books and jigsaws and to avoid putting things on the floor. The post box is set to be refurbished this summer.
* A community speed watch campaign will take place in the village for two weeks in June. PLEASE WATCH YOUR SPEED!
* District councillor Neil Bannisters report - a new administration has been elected for HDC. There was a coalition made up of Lib Dem, Labour and Green but due to a couple of defections and a couple of newly gained by elections, a vote of no confidence was given and the area has now become conservative.
As a result it is hoped more grants will become available for local councils, more help for businesses such as hospitality and more information to follow.
The local government reorganisation plans for Leicestershire is now in and hopefully a new way forward will be known by July.
The draft local plan has been submitted.
Lutterworth East is still under discussion with the possibility of logistic warehousing and a quarry. The housing land is currently undergoing an archaeological dig over the summer before building begins.
Incidents of fly tipping have decreased slightly this year and the average clear up time for reported instances is 5 working days.
* The village asset register has now been agreed.
* There will be summer colour again in our village planters.
*Amos play area has been cleaned and re-varnished. ROSPA will be visiting soon to inspect and a report sent in time. Cameras are being placed on Amos to try and combat dog fouling and we are looking at quotes for some fencing repairs and locking system to the kissing gate.
TCV will be clearing the pond again this Winter.
Quotes are being sought to look at the stability of some of the older trees on Amos
* There are a couple of new planning applications if you wish to view them on the HDC website.
* An ecology company has tested the pond water on Amos but unfortunately crested newts were not found to live there.
Next meeting Thursday 23 July 2026 in the village hall
