Dungeness RNLI to feature in latest series of BBC’s Saving Lives at Sea

The volunteer lifeboat crew of Dungeness will appear in the latest series of BBC’s Saving Lives at Sea, which is now in its tenth year of being broadcast.

The episode featuring Dungeness RNLI will show on BBC2 on Tuesday 18 August at 8pm.

The series showcases the courage of RNLI lifesavers throughout the UK and Ireland as they respond to emergencies around the coast.

This week’s episode sees Dungeness RNLI tasked to a small boat in the English Channel that is breaking up with 62 people on board, alongside other rescue stories from around the UK and Ireland.

Coxswain Jon Morgan says:

‘Saving Lives at Sea shows viewers how lifeboat crew and lifeguards rescue those in distress at sea, and the lifesaving nature of our work. We are delighted to feature in such a long-running and popular series alongside our fellow lifesavers from across the RNLI.’

More than 30 different RNLI lifeboat stations feature in the series, as well as some of the charity’s beach lifeguards. The programme features real life rescue footage, interviews with the RNLI crews, lifeguards and the people they have rescued, and an insight into the lives of the charity’s lifesavers.

In 2025, RNLI lifeboat crews around the UK and Ireland aided 8,290 people, saving 272 lives, while the charity’s lifeguards helped 36,213 people and saved 117 lives on some of the UK’s busiest beaches.

WOW! Thank you to all who came to celebrate our Open Day on our 200th year today!

It has been a spectacular day with lots to do and see, a great lifeboat demonstration featuring Stormy Stan, Littlestone Lifeboat Station and RNLI Hastings Lifeboat Station and a very busy BBQ! 🍔

A huge thank you to our stallholders today including British Divers Marine Life Rescue, Beachside Barber Wendy Carrig Photography 2024, Beach Buddies Working Newfoundlands and much more!

A special shout out goes to the team from Scania, who cycled 44 miles as part of a sponsored bike ride, finishing at our lifeboat station and raising funds for the RNLI!
