Temporary closure of Marine Parade, Lyme Regis.

Dorset Council has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 as amended.

All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Marine Parade, between Old Bonded Stores and no. 20 Marine Parade, a distance of approximately 15 metres.

The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.
It comes into operation on 10 September 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 10 November 2026.

This Order will enable South Coast Traffic Management to facilitate scaffolding to enable building re-pointing.

On this occasion there will be no specified alternative route for diverted traffic.

⚠️ National Grid have notified us of an urgent closure on Ware Lane, Lyme Regis.

Due to urgent excavation in the highway to locate and repair and LV cable fault.

The works are expected to be completed by 7 September 2026.

📢Notice given of councillor vacancy📢

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN

Pursuant to Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972, that Neil Hampton-Rumbold has ceased to be a Member of the Town Council, and that a vacancy now exists in the office of Councillor for the Town Council.

If within 14 days after the date of this notice (i.e. no later than 21 September, 2026), a request for an election to fill the vacancy is made either in writing to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services, Dorset Council, County Hall, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1XJ or by email to [email protected] by TEN electors for the Town, an election will be held to fill the vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

If an election is called, it will take place not later than 23 November 2026

✈️ RED ARROWS FLYPAST CANCELLED

Unfortunately, we were informed by the Red Arrows at 18:34pm, that today's scheduled flypast over Lyme Regis was unable to take place due to serious adverse weather conditions at RAF Mildenhall, which prevented the team from taking off.

We know many residents and visitors made their way into town and waited eagerly to see the Reds, and we share your disappointment that circumstances beyond anyone's control meant the flypast could not go ahead.

We would like to apologise to everyone who turned out and thank you for your patience and understanding.

We were very much looking forward to finally welcoming the Red Arrows back to the skies above Lyme Regis, but unfortunately the British weather had other ideas. ☔✈️

As always, safety comes first!

Temporary Timetable Changes on the West of England Line

We have received the following update from Network Rail on the temporary revised timetable on the West of England between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids.

To keep customers safe, trains have been running at reduced speeds between Tisbury in Wiltshire to Honiton in Devon, a 60-mile stretch of largely single-track railway which is particularly vulnerable to drought-like conditions.

Bus services

To help students with their journeys to local schools and colleges, bus services between Axminster, Feniton and Exeter will be provided as follows, starting on Tuesday 1 September:

Service 0742 Feniton to Exeter St Davids
Calling points: Whimple (0802), Cranbrook (0812), Pinhoe (0820), Exeter Central (0834), and Exeter St David's (0839)

Service 0836 Axminster to Exeter St Davids
Calling points: Honiton (0856), Exeter Central (0940), and Exeter St David's (0945)

Service 1645 Exeter St Davids to Axminster
Calling points: Exeter Central (1658), Honiton (1748), and Axminster (1808)

Service 1649 Exeter St Davids to Feniton
Calling points: Exeter Central (1702), Pinhoe (1722), Cranbrook (1732), Whimple (1742), and Feniton (1757)

Revised train times

To help customers travelling to Exeter we have re-timed the 0640 service from Salisbury to Exeter St Davids to arrive before 0900.

This service will now depart Salisbury at 0630, calling at Tisbury (0644), Gillingham (0658), Templecombe (0708), Sherborne (0717), Yeovil Junction (0724), Crewkerne (0737), Axminster (0757), Honiton (0812), Feniton (0818), Whimple (0824) Cranbrook (0829), Pinhoe (0833) Exeter Central (0843), and Exeter St Davids (0846).

The 0755 service from Exeter St Davids to London Waterloo will also be re-timed and will depart Exeter St Davids at the earlier time of 0739.

The council is seeking to appoint a forward-thinking deputy town clerk who can work alongside the town clerk to manage the council's statutory requirements and promote the
interests of the town.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, with a 'can do' attitude, who can demonstrate strong governance, administrative and management skills alongside a good understanding of all aspects of local service delivery. The ideal candidate could come from a range of backgrounds or disciplines; administrative, financial, operational or community, for instance.

If you think you meet these requirements, we'd like to hear from you. Ideally, the successful candidate will hold, or be prepared to complete, the Certificate in Local Council Administration.

The post of deputy town clerk is demanding, and duties will require regular evening and occasional weekend working.

❗IMPORTANT UPDATE ❗


Discussions took place with the Red Arrow team earlier this morning. The weather forecast for midday Saturday 29 August remains poor with a high probability of rain.
So, the Red Arrow’s will now perform their flypast in Lyme Regis at 6.30PM Friday 28 August. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us.

Lyme Regis mayor, Philip Evans MBE said, “these things our outside our control, we are just grateful the Red Arrows can make an appearance in Lyme Regis”.

We have some exciting news...

Following the disappointment of the Red Arrows' cancelled display earlier this month, we're delighted to share that The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team is scheduled to make a flypast over Lyme Regis at 12.33pm this Saturday 29 August.

Lyme Regis is getting another chance to welcome the Reds back to our skies!

This won't be the full aerobatic display scheduled for Lifeboat Week, however, it will still be a fantastic opportunity to see the iconic planes soar over Lyme Bay... and we'll certainly be looking skywards for this one.

If you're planning to come into town to catch a glimpse of the world-famous team, please allow plenty of time for your journey and expect Lyme Regis to be busy over the bank holiday weekend.

Skateboarders assemble 📣

Skateboards, spectacular tricks and plenty of fun will return to Lyme Regis this September as the annual Skate Jam event takes place.

The event at Lyme Regis Skatepark in Charmouth Road car park on Saturday 5 September promises and exciting day of competition, entertainment and live demonstrations.
