Learning beyond the nursery walls!

We are so fortunate that our wonderful nursery is located so close to the beach, giving our children endless opportunities to explore, learn and connect with the world around them.

Today, our Preschool children headed out into the local community for a spot of litter picking. They were incredibly engaged, carefully looking for litter and talking about why it is important to look after our environment and keep our community and beaches clean.

We were also so proud of the wonderful road safety awareness the children demonstrated along the way. They listened carefully, stayed together and confidently practised how to keep themselves safe when walking near and crossing roads.

Experiences like these bring learning to life — developing independence, responsibility and an understanding of the important part we can all play in caring for the world around us.

A lovely morning of exploring, learning and making a little difference to our local community!

Our Pre-School Graduation 2026! 🎓

Last weekend we had a wonderful afternoon celebrating our amazing pre-school children and everything they have achieved during their time with us!

We began with a special graduation ceremony, followed by some fantastic performances from the children for their proud parents and families. This year, we asked the children what they would like to make their graduation celebration extra special — and they chose a disco! 🪩 So DJ Keith brought the party spirit, filling the afternoon with lots of music, dancing and plenty of fun!

From tiny beginnings to confident little learners, it has been such a privilege to watch each and every one of you grow, learn, make friendships and create so many wonderful memories along the way. We are incredibly proud of you all and cannot wait to see what adventures await you as you take your next big step into school! 📚

A huge thank you to all our wonderful families for joining us and helping to make the afternoon so special.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! We will miss you! 🎓✨

This morning our babies enjoyed a wonderful large-scale painting experience, exploring patterns, marks and movement using paint across a large sheet of paper using cars.

The children were encouraged to explore freely, using their hands and bodies as well to move the paint across the paper and discover the different marks they could create. They showed fantastic curiosity and engagement as they watched the paint spread, mixed colours together and noticed how their movements created different patterns.

It was certainly a messy experience – some of our babies ended up just as decorated as the paper! However, they remained incredibly engaged and clearly enjoyed the freedom to explore the paint with their whole bodies.

Mini Beast Hunt 🌿🐝

Using our mini beast checklist, the children carefully explored the area, keeping their eyes peeled for different creatures in their natural habitats. We were delighted to spot: dragonflies, butterflies, spiders, bees, wasps and flies along the way! 🐉🦋🕷️🐝

This adventure linked beautifully with our Book of the Month, 'Superworm'. As we've been enjoying the story together, the children have become fascinated by the tiny creatures that live all around us. Our walk gave them the opportunity to make real-life connections with the world of mini beasts, encouraging curiosity, observation and a love of nature.

Outdoor Creativity 🎨🌿

There’s something special about taking learning beyond the indoor environment. Recently our little artists enjoyed painting outdoors at the meadow, surrounded by colourful wildflowers and buzzing insects.

Painting outside encourages children to slow down, observe the world around them, and express what they see in their own unique way. It’s not just about creating artwork, it’s about developing creativity, fine motor skills, and concentration.

✨A morning at Milford✨

Just an insight to what a morning at Milford looks like in the life of our children.

Some of our younger babies enjoyed a peaceful morning snooze outdoors, benefiting from the fresh air and calm surroundings.

Songs and movement activities have been enjoyed and encourage listening skills, coordination, confidence and language development, while giving everyone the opportunity to express themselves through music and action.

Some of our little ones enjoyed bubble blowing. This supports speech and language development, encouraging communication, turn-taking and lots of excitement as the children watched, chased and popped the bubbles.

Games of catch with both friends and adults help to build positive relationships, teamwork and confidence through shared play.

Colouring activities have been available and linked to our story of the month toddler. This promotes wellbeing, creativity and fine motor development, strengthening the muscles needed for early writing.

Maths was woven throughout our play, with children counting bubbles, football kicks, dinosaurs and trains, while exploring size, quantity, patterns and simple problem-solving.

Many of the children and adults have enjoyed football games. This has encouraged teamwork, cooperation and physical development as the children practised balancing, kicking and working together.

Small world play with dinosaurs, trains and water has inspired imaginative storytelling, counting, sorting and narrative building as the children created their own adventures.

We also explored the natural world, investigating the scent of fresh rosemary and the textures of logs, encouraging sensory exploration, curiosity and conversations about the environment around us.

Every morning is filled with opportunities to learn through play, and we're so proud of all the curiosity, kindness and confidence our children show each day.

Giving Our Octopus His Tentacles! 🐙

Today the children have been developing their fine motor skills with this fun octopus threading activity!

Using colourful laces and cotton reels, they carefully threaded the octopus’ tentacles through the holes, helping to strengthen their hand-eye coordination, finger muscles and concentration. As they played, the children also explored colours, counted the reels and practised their problem-solving skills.

Simple activities like this support the skills children need for future writing while encouraging independence and confidence through play. ✍️
