I’ve a bit of an update on the Lymm bus issues. Myself and Cllr Ian Marks have been working with the council and bus company on how to improve the bus service around Lymm.
There are 3 main ideas. The first is to boost what was the Lymm Shopper bus, so it runs much more regularly Monday - Saturday, and potentially extend the route to take in more of Lymm.
The second idea is to change this service to an on-demand service. With a service like this the bus does a basic route, but if you request the bus, it diverts to include an occasional stop - not your doorstep, but close by. It may then drop you off on the standard route, or again at an occasional stop. This is a new type of service that has worked really well in other parts of the UK.
The final proposal is to adapt a bus from Warrington to go via Statham, along Whitbarrow Road and into the village.
There’s pros and cons of all the service options, but the key point is funding has been secured to deliver one of the options.
We are hoping to arrange a public consultation in early March to get your views on what option is best, see if there’s any tweaks that could be made to the ideas, then to put in place a suitable service.
What’s your thoughts? Remember we’re in a Austerity situation where public funding is limited, and the only way to keep a bus service is to actually use it.
