CAPTAIN DAVE NUNNERLEY

Earlier this week on squadron we were fortunate to welcome Captain Dave Nunnerley as a guest speaker.

He spoke to our cadets about his experiences serving in the Parachute Regiment, sharing insight into both the challenges and opportunities that come with life in the military.

Captain Nunnerley also discussed how the Armed Forces are continuing to modernise, particularly highlighting the increasing role of technology and drones in today’s military operations.

To make the session even more engaging, he gave some of our cadets the opportunity to have a go at flying a drone themselves, giving them a hands-on insight into this rapidly developing area.

A fascinating and inspiring visit that sparked plenty of interest and discussion across the squadron.

A fantastic effort from Sgt Olford & Plt Off Risley!

New qualifications mean more opportunities for our cadets so a big thanks for giving up time to complete this arduous course!

🎯NEW WEAPONS INSTRUCTORS 🎯

Over the last 2 weekends, Staff from Greater Manchester Wing have been studying hard under the direction of North Region SATT and have successfully qualified as Skill at Arms Instructors (SAAI).

This qualifies them to deliver weapons training on all weapon systems used within the RAF Air Cadets, and will enable many more cadets to become trained and skilled in shooting!

A huge congratulations to (L-R):

Sgt Tegan Olford - 2137 Lymm Sqn, RAF Air Cadets
Sgt Alex Gavin - 316 Leigh Squadron ATC
Flt Lt Calum Smith - 316 Leigh Squadron ATC
Plt Off Max Risley - 2137 Lymm Sqn, RAF Air Cadets

Badges

We are only two parade nights into the year and it’s already been fantastic to see the level of commitment and effort from our cadets reflected in their achievements.

So far this year, we have proudly awarded 2 Blue Communications badges, 4 Bronze First Aid badges, 1 Silver Cyber badge, 1 Bronze Leadership badge, 1 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and 1 Leading Cadet classification.

These early successes are a real credit to the hard work put in by our cadets, as well as the dedication of our staff team in supporting their training and development. It’s an excellent start to the year and sets a strong foundation for what’s to come. We’re really looking forward to seeing how many more qualifications, badges, and milestones can be achieved as the year progresses.

Happy New Year

As we begin the new year, we would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and take the opportunity to reflect on the start of another exciting year at the squadron. The new year brings fresh opportunities for training, development, and continued progression for our cadets.

We were delighted to welcome cadets back to squadron this week, beginning the year with 34 cadets on squadron. It was encouraging to see such a strong turnout and a positive atmosphere, with cadets keen to re-engage with squadron activities and set high standards for the months ahead. Our cadets are looking forward to a busy programme of training and events, continuing to showcase what is it 2137 are capable of.

What a way to end the year!!

From an unforgettable awards night celebrating our wins, milestones, and the hard work that got us there, to strikes, spares, laughs, and festive chaos at our Christmas bowling party

It was all about recognising the people who make it happen, sharing great moments, and finishing the year the right way: together. Grateful for the memories, the energy, and this incredible team. Here’s to an even bigger and better year ahead.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All

Today, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of those who served - and those who continue to serve. Their actions shaped the freedoms we have today, and their legacy lives on in every act of service, compassion, and unity we see around us. We owe them more than words can express. Lest we forget.

29102025 - ENROLMENT PARADE

After six months of dedication, discipline, and determination, seven of our recruits have officially joined our main squadron as fully fledged cadets!

Throughout their training, they’ve developed their skills in leadership, aircraft theory, the history of flight, first aid, sports, and more - proving their commitment to excellence every step of the way.

A huge well done to Best Cadet: RCT Rigler and Most Improved Cadet: RCT Walton - your hard work and progress have truly stood out.

Welcome to the squadron, cadets; the journey is just beginning!

We are deeply saddened to learn that Reverend Cannon Michael Burgess has passed away.

A former committed and engaged padre to 2137 Squadron, Father Michael was a real light and source of happiness in the community.

Many cadets benefitted from Father Michael's engaging activities and enjoyed having him around at HQ, often involving a song or two.

RIP Father Michael, you shall be sorely missed by many.

28/09/2025 - WING TRAINING DAY

Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it!!! Last weekend we took part in Wing Training Day and the 2137 family absolutely shone. From the very first moment on parade, it was clear how much effort had gone into getting to that point – hours of polishing, endless ironing, and the sheer determination to get every detail right.

All of that hard work truly paid off. Across the board we showed exactly what it means to be part of 2137: teamwork, commitment, and pride in everything we do.

A huge thank you goes to every single cadet who put in the time and energy to make this possible. You represented the squadron perfectly, and the results spoke for themselves – we couldn’t be prouder of how amazingly you performed. From leadership to first aid, drill to archery, we do it all, and we do it all well!

Here’s to carrying that standard forward and continuing to show what the 2137 family is made of!

13/09/2025 - FS SAM ABLE

Last week we bid a fond farewell to FS Sam Able, a cadet who has truly made the most of every opportunity throughout his time at 2137. Sam’s cadet journey has been nothing short of inspiring. From his very first night on squadron, his determination, curiosity, and positive attitude set him apart, and over the years he has gone on to achieve so much.

Through hard work and commitment, Sam rose all the way to the rank of Flight Sergeant, a role in which he has been both a leader and a role model for younger cadets. Alongside this, he pursued his passion for aviation to the fullest, gaining multiple flying and gliding scholarships that not only developed his skills but also fuelled his lifelong love of flying.

Sam has been an integral part of the squadron family for many years, contributing his time, energy, and knowledge to help others succeed while also pushing himself to new heights. His presence has left a lasting impact on 2137, and he will be greatly missed on parade nights, activities, and of course in the skies.

As he now moves forward into the next exciting chapter of his life, we have no doubt that Sam will continue to soar. We hope he keeps his 2137 family close to heart, and we wish him the very best as he embarks on bigger and better things.

Well done FS Able, you’ve set the bar high, and we couldn’t be prouder!

06/09/2025 - PILOT OFFICER QUIRK

A massive congratulations to Plt Off Quirk, who has just completed his CIC at RAF Cranwell.

This past week, Sir has been miles away from the squadron, taking on a course designed to prepare him for life as a staff member within the RAFAC. From early starts to late finishes, he’s been challenged through lessons, discussions and assessments covering leadership, safeguarding, training delivery, and everything it takes to support cadets to the highest standard.

It’s been a long but rewarding week, and we couldn’t be prouder to see him representing the squadron and returning with a wealth of new knowledge and skills to share.

Well done, Sir - your hard work and commitment will make a real difference to our cadets and our team going forward!
