🟠⚠ Amber heat-health alerts have been issued to the health systems across southern England until Tuesday 23 June, with yellow alerts covering the Midlands.

♻️ Bins in warm weather

As the weather warms up, a few steps can help reduce the risk of pests, like flies and maggots, around your bins and food waste caddies:

• lock your outdoor caddy lid by pushing the handle upright or forwards
• clean your bins and caddies regularly – a spray of white vinegar can help reduce lingering smells
• use a liner in your grey indoor caddy before transferring it to your brown outdoor caddy
• put all food waste in your outdoor caddy rather than your black‑lid rubbish bin (food waste is collected weekly)
• make sure you bag items that may cause odours in your black-lid rubbish bin, such as nappies
• store your bins and outdoor caddy out of direct sunlight where possible

Taking these steps can help keep your bins clean, and prevent smells and pests during warmer weather.

We planted 209 trees during the most recent planting season (November 2025 to March 2026), helping to support our environment and local wildlife.

We take care of trees on council-owned land and in public open spaces across the district, carrying out regular inspections, maintenance, and proactive work to keep them safe and healthy.

We also manage over 18 hectares of woodland, maintaining these areas to support biodiversity, strengthen the local ecosystem, and provide important wildlife corridors.

Our CCTV control room monitors cameras across parts of the district 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The team works closely with the police and other partners to help keep residents and visitors to the New Forest safe, while preventing and deterring crime.
