🐝 The Bees are Making the Most of the Last Few Weeks of Summer 🐝

Our formal gardens have been a haven for hundreds of bees over the summer, and though bees can remain active until October or even November, they definitely seem to be winding down.

Be like the bees and make the most of the last weeks of summer by popping down for a visit and exploring our 78-acre parkland and formal gardens 🌲🌷

❤️ We'd like to give an enormous thank you to all our volunteers who made our Lytham Proms Weekend concerts possible this past Saturday and Sunday.

Even with the dreary weather forecast, they showed up to help; when the clouds burst and the rain poured, they stuck around, kept smiling, and played their parts to the end.

Some guarded doorways and gates for hours, others manned the car parks, assisted guests, sold merch, ran a raffle, picked up litter... The list goes on.

Thank you to all who helped make this weekend a success. Thank you for braving the terrible weather for us. As always, none of this would've been possible without you.

🌳 Reviving an Ancient Art to Protect Our Woodland Floor 🌳

If you go down to the woods today, you might be a little surprised to see some peculiar structures put together by our grounds team.

Dry hedges go back into the mists of time. Neolithic farmers are thought to have used cut branches, brush, and brash to cordon off patches of woodland. We’ve taken their ancient idea to solve a 21st-century problem.

🌱 These new hedges will protect next year's snowdrops and bluebells, which our volunteers have worked hard to propagate.

Aside from protecting the plant life, the hedges also:
- Provide instant shelter and nesting habitat for a wide range of woodland creatures.
- Use wooden posts with brash woven between them to form a natural and sustainable barrier that blends seamlessly into the surroundings.
- Put our surplus woody waste to great use, keeping it out of bins and off bonfires.
- Returns nutrients to the soil as the wood naturally rots down. This creates a rich habitat for insects and a prime feeding ground for small mammals like field voles, wood mice, and hedgehogs.

The grounds team approached this project with fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm, as there really is quite an art to constructing them! Well done, grounds volunteers!

⭐ Day Two Lytham Proms Photos! ⭐

This year's Lytham Proms Weekend certainly brought some challenges with the intermittent weather!

After a decent enough start on Sunday, the concert dramatically ended with a torrential downpour and the sounds of thunder on the horizon. The incoming storm held off long enough for Aled Jones to complete his performance (and even an encore!), but then... Let's just say his experience on Songs of Praise certainly made the heavens open! We only had the short flag-waving finale left to complete the evening's set.

Our own annual show offers enthusiasts the opportunity to enjoy all makes of classic cars & motorbikes as they are displayed in our stunning historic parkland.
Admission: £5 per person
Under-16s go free

🐿️ WOODCRAFT SCULPTURE TRAIL
There are five beautiful birds and one sneaky squirrel to find dotted around our historic parkland. Can you find them all? A free map is available from the office if you need some help!
The sculptures will be on display until the end of October.
