PROMISED A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE. SO WHERE IS IT?

In 2021, Kirkham was promised a Heritage & Eco Skills Centre at Hillside, training people in traditional skills and creating green jobs, alongside an arts centre and community cinema.

This week, Fylde Council announced the project was complete.

Yet Hillside is now for sale, with offers around £650,000.

The skills centre and cinema don't exist.

And this isn't the only Fylde project where residents have been left asking questions.

Kirkham Baths. St Annes Pool. The paddling pool. The boating lake. The town square. Now Hillside.

Residents deserve to know what happened to the promises and what happened to the money.

Justice Served for His Victims.

Patrick Hartley took almost £700,000 from 13 families across the North West, money for extensions and building work that was never finished or done so badly it had to be ripped out and redone.

One woman is still £80,000 in debt trying to make her home liveable again, two years on. Another family lost the chance to care for a dying relative in the home they'd paid him to build.

This week, thanks to the case built by Lancashire Trading Standards, he was finally sentenced.

I've said it before: rogue traders like Hartley don't just take people's money. They take their trust, their plans, sometimes their last chance to do right by the people they love.

Cases like this are exactly why I pushed to make Trading Standards enforcement a priority. There'll be more.

Two Dodgy V**e Shops Closed Down. Many More to Go.

Two shops have now been closed after repeated failures with Lancashire Trading Standards.

Since taking on Trading Standards, my goal has been simple: get more of these dodgy shops shut down.

But temporary closure orders only go so far. We now need the Labour Government to change the legislation so that where businesses repeatedly break the law, there is a proper route to permanently close them down.

Break the law, face the consequences.

WORK HAS NOW STARTED ON THE ST GEORGE’S PARK TO WESHAM PATH 🚧

Following the issues raised by residents, I’m pleased to see the improvements now getting underway.

The works will be delivered in stages:

🌿 Vegetation clearance has commenced today, preparing the route for the improvements.

🛣️ Surfacing works will begin next week, including improving the existing path, raising sections where required and replacing gravel areas with proper tarmac.

💡 Lighting works will also begin next week, with new lighting and repairs to existing columns.

The plans also include improvements around The Kingfisher, including the new ramp and improved access.

Importantly, access will be maintained throughout the works, meaning disruption to residents should be kept to a minimum.

These are long-awaited improvements that will make the route safer, more accessible and better for residents and pedestrians using it every day.

I’ll keep residents updated throughout the works and share further progress as each stage is completed. 🚧

£520 MILLION. That’s the potential saving.

Lancashire County Council, alongside Fylde and Wyre councils, is urging the new Government to look again at the proposed offshore wind grid connection.

EnBW’s withdrawal from Morgan has changed the picture. Our independent review shows there is a better alternative that could:

🇬🇧 Save taxpayers £520m
👷 Unlock 1,100+ jobs at Hillhouse
💷 Deliver hundreds of millions in wider economic benefits

I’ve written to the Prime Minister and Energy Secretary making the case.

We’re asking the Government to look at the numbers and choose the option that delivers better value for taxpayers and Lancashire.

Why lock ourselves into an expensive approach when a better alternative is available?

The Government needs to look at the facts before it’s too late.

Fylde's Conservatives: Spend First, Explain Never

St Annes Road West has been disrupted for months, with residents shown visualisations of what they were paying for. This week: an email saying the council's run out of money—the pavement outside the Town Hall and Braxfield Court will now be cheap tarmac instead.

Nobody asked residents. The decision was made behind closed doors by a Programme Board in June, and there's "no further opportunity for reconsideration." Translation: it's done, the money's gone, and your opinion doesn't matter.

Same story everywhere in St Annes. The boating lake, patched with half a tonne of bitumen this month, lost most of its water again within a week—no funded fix, just another "options appraisal." The paddling pool's shut with no return date. Kirkham Baths and St Annes Pool have been closed between them for years, past every promised reopening date.

Announce it, spend the money, let residents live with the disruption, then quietly downgrade or shelve it and dare anyone to ask why.

Fylde's about to lose its own council altogether, merging into the new Fylde Coast Council. Is this the record you trust to have your voice in the room when that happens?

I said back in January that I'd secure investment in Milbanke, and today I can show you our next steps on that journey.

Since Reform took control, we ran a consultation across all of our care homes to hear directly from residents, families and staff, and the message was clear: people want to see real, tangible improvements to the buildings they live and work in.

📄 £114,000 identified for roof remedial works
📄 £16,931.45 identified for bedroom remodelling

That's a total of:
💰 £130,931.45 total investment identified for Milbanke

This is now going through the Council's capital programme approval process, and I will keep you updated as things progress. Residents and staff at Milbanke deserve a home that's properly maintained, and we owe our most vulnerable a duty of care that is never sub-par.

That's the difference with Reform: not just promises, but the doing to back them up.

NAME THE NEW COUNCIL

The new council covering Fylde, Wyre and Blackpool currently has a working name. Fylde Coast Council.

It's not final. This week, County Councillors can put forward alternatives, but any suggestion needs the backing of at least seven of us and has to be in by 5pm Friday.

I'm backing Lancashire West. It's a compass bearing so people know where it is, and it keeps Lancashire in the name. Our county shouldn't disappear off the map because of a reorganisation nobody voted for.

A few rules from Government. No "City" in the name. No Northern or Southern. No dashes.

Beyond that, it's open. Vote in the poll. I'll put it forward.

Deadline is Friday. Don't hang about.

Final day of the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes. 🏌🏼‍♂️

The 50th staging of this Championship, and it's been a brilliant week for Fylde.

Tens of thousands of visitors through the gates. Hotels full, restaurants busy, money going into local tills across St Annes, Lytham and beyond.

This is what major events do for our area. Fylde has the course, the coastline and the hospitality to host the best in the world.

Well done to everyone who made it happen. ⛳️
