NT Sandilands

NT Sandilands National Trust Sandilands is a restored coastal landscape where former fairways have become wildlife-rich wetlands. It helps us to learn and grow.

Open, accessible and peaceful, it’s a place for birds, nature and people to thrive together. Sandilands is a coastal landscape transformed. Once a former golf course, this special place has been reimagined by the National Trust in partnership with Lincolnshire Coastal Country Park as a nature-rich haven for wildlife and people alike. What were once manicured fairways are now a vibrant mosaic of we

tlands and coastal habitats, carefully designed to support both migrating and breeding birds. Already, species such as black-tailed godwits, spoonbills and lapwings are beginning to make Sandilands their home, a wonderful sign of nature returning. The wetlands are open to the public, with improved accessibility helping more people to explore, pause and connect with this changing landscape. Whether you’re enjoying a gentle walk, watching birds from the paths, or simply taking time to breathe in the open coastal air, Sandilands offers space for wellbeing, reflection and discovery. Cared for by National Trust, Sandilands is becoming a place where nature and people can thrive together, a peaceful coastal gem, protected for everyone, for ever. Welcome to the official page for the National Trust Sandilands. We make sure we're available to respond to your comments and queries between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday. And sometimes we'll check in at the weekend because we've missed you :) Got a membership enquiry? Please email: [email protected]

As part of Great Big Green Week and The Big Help Out, a beach clean will take place at Sandilands at 1.30pm - 2.30pm, to help protect local marine life this World Ocean Day.

Help care for this special stretch of coastline and keep the sea safer for wildlife this summer. Every piece of litter collected—from washed-up plastic to tiny fragments hidden in the sand—will make a difference.

Important data will also be gathered for the Marine Conservation Society, helping to build a clearer picture of coastal litter and supporting campaigns for cleaner, healthier seas.

To take part, meet near the car park at the northern tip of the nature reserve at 1:30pm.

More information is available on the National Trust website: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/nottinghamshire-lincolnshire/sandilands/events

We're delighted to share that Dough & Barley will be bringing the brand-new café at Sandilands Nature Reserve to life, opening later this summer.

Whether you're stopping by after a peaceful walk through the dunes, meeting friends for coffee, or simply taking in the beauty of the coastline, the café will offer a welcoming space to pause, relax and enjoy the surroundings.

As preparations continue, there will also be exciting recruitment opportunities available. Anyone interested in joining the team is encouraged to contact Cheri from Dough & Barley for more information: [email protected] or pick up an application form (on weekend days) from the temporary catering trailer.

We look forward to sharing more soon as we prepare to open the doors to this exciting new addition at Sandilands Nature Reserve.

It’s Volunteers Week and at National Trust Sandilands, our volunteers play a vital role in helping us to establish a nature reserve where nature and people can thrive.

Whether that’s helping with planting, clearing sand to help the accessibility of the site, or lead walks that highlight the nature that is already calling Sandilands home.

Thank you for your time and dedication!

For the first time, avocets have chosen to breed at Sandilands Nature Reserve, and we’re delighted to have 12 chicks currently making their way through this exciting season.

To help give these avocets, their chicks and the many other ground-nesting birds and wildlife the best chance of success, please keep dogs on leads while exploring the reserve. If your dog would like some off-lead freedom, the beach is just a short stroll away.

Thank you for helping us protect the wildlife that makes Sandilands so special.

Last week, staff from the Boston Environment Agency team spent one of their volunteering days giving back to nature.

After a site walk to explore Sandilands, the team got stuck into tackling invasive ragwort—helping to keep the habitat healthy for wildlife and visitors alike.

Together, they made a real impact, removing an incredible 8 tonne bags of ragwort in just one day!

A huge thank you to everyone involved for their hard work, teamwork, and commitment to protecting our natural spaces! 🌱
