As the 6-week summer holidays come to an end, we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to visit us over the summer. 💚 It’s been wonderful welcoming so many of you through our gates, and we truly appreciate all of your support throughout the summer. We hope you’ve made some fantastic memories and enjoyed meeting all of our amazing animals.

Although the summer season is coming to an end, we will still be open 10am - 4:30pm and our team will be busy throughout the rest of the year caring for our animals and working behind the scenes on exciting projects.
Be sure to follow our page to see what we will be getting up to over the coming months! Who knows… we may even have some new arrivals for everyone to meet 👀

🦭 A week in our care 💙💙💙

This little seal has now been with us for a week after being found with injuries that we can only describe as being consistent with dog bites.
As you can see from the photographs, there are visible injuries to both the back flippers and front flipper 🥺😢
Thankfully, this little one is now safe with us and receiving the care, treatment and rest they need while we monitor their recovery.

We don’t know exactly what happened, but injuries like these are a stark reminder of why it is so important to keep dogs on leads around seal haul-out areas and beaches where seals may be present.

Seals are wild animals and, particularly when they are young, they may be unable to get away quickly from a curious or excited dog. What may seem like harmless investigation to a dog can have devastating consequences for a seal 🐕

Luckily he's doing really well this last week, the wounds are looking much better and we hope for a full recovery and return 🌊

Did You Know?

Did you know ring-tailed lemurs cuddle up to each other to stay warm and strengthen their social bonds? ❤️
On cooler days, they’ll huddle together in groups, soaking up the sunshine and each other’s body heat. This adorable behavior is also an important part of lemur family life—it helps them feel safe, connected, and part of the troop. Basically… lemur cuddles are nature’s way of saying “we’re better together!” 🥰

Mud, Muck & Happy Faces!

Here at the sanctuary, we’re passionate about not only caring for the animals, but also helping educate the next generation about conservation, animal welfare and the importance of protecting wildlife. We’re passionate about educating students and volunteers about conservation, animal care, biodiversity, and the important role we can all play in protecting the natural world. By sharing knowledge and giving people hands-on experiences, we hope to inspire the next generation of conservationists. 💚

A huge thank you to Riseholme College and all of their wonderful students for getting involved in the projects we’ve been working on so far this year. Your enthusiasm, hard work and willingness to get stuck in have been fantastic, and we’ve loved having you as part of our conservation journey!

It’s a great opportunity to learn more about sanctuary life, conservation and the responsibilities involved in caring for animals, while making a positive contribution to our work. So, if you’re a student looking for a placement, hoping to gain experience, or simply passionate about animals and would like to volunteer with us, please get in touch!

Animal of the Week - Good or Bad 🐾

We’re back with this post! After a few very hot weeks, all our animals have been making the most of the sunshine ☀️ — lots of sunbathing, plenty of napping and saving their energy for when it’s cooler! 😴

Bad Animal of the Week – Our Ring-Tailed Coat named Theoli

She really is the sweetest girl… but when it comes to sharing, she turns into a little maniac! 😂 She’s constantly telling Natasha off and making sure everyone knows when she’s not happy about sharing. At 11 years old, we think she’s simply taking on the role of the older sister — telling everyone else to stop being so greedy!

Good Animal of the Week – These adorable baby ferrets!

These little ones recently arrived at our sanctuary after being found living within a caravan site. ❤️ They’re now settling in and really starting to show off their true ferret personalities — cheeky, curious, playful and absolutely full of character! 🥹
