Badgers are social creatures and will bond with each other through actions such as grooming, playing or pressing their bottoms onto another badger in order to leave a scent mark on them!

Another frequent behaviour they display is during mating when the males bite at the necks of the females. This usually occurs within the badger's clan, but males will travel to neighbouring setts to try and mate with a receptive female if one is present!

Spider Season" is officially on the horizon! 🕷️

​Don't panic—we aren't facing an invasion! When people talk about "spider season," it simply means mature males are leaving their usual hideouts to search for a mate, which is why they frequently wander indoors.
​While an unexpected guest can definitely cause a fright, our eight-legged friends play a vital role in the ecosystem:
- they act as fantastic natural pest control, keeping unwanted insects in check.
-​They provide an essential food source for birds and other garden wildlife.

​Without them, our local habitats simply wouldn't function as smoothly.

​Next time you spot one scuttling across your living room floor, gently pop it outside or into a shed. They're just out looking for love! 💚

🐾 DOG FOOD APPEAL 🐾

Enrico the badger is putting in a request on behalf of himself and plenty of our other hungry patients!

We’re currently getting through large amounts of dog food, which is used for many of the animals in our care including badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, corvids and gulls.

Any brands and flavours of tins, trays, pouches or bags of dry food are very gratefully received.

Donations can be dropped off at Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary, 9am–6pm daily. Wish list in the comments!

They're bred to grow unnaturally fast, packed into unsuitable industrial systems, and treated as commodities rather than sentient beings 💔.
Now, a new Netflix documentary, created by Louis Theroux's production company and starring Mo Gilligan, is exposing what REALLY happens behind the scenes of the industrial chicken industry.

⚠️SPOILER ALERT: Behind the cheap meat you see in the supermarket or in chicken shops, is real, undeniable suffering faced by both humans and animals.⚠️

It's a powerful reminder of why we MUST move towards more sustainable farming solutions - and why our work to oppose new factory farm applications is so crucial.
