p mine's history come alive as the expert guides share its stories. Braich Goch slate mine was hand dug by Victorian miners and first worked in 1836 and abandoned by the miners in the 1970s. When the door creaked shut for the last time more than 130 years of mining history was captured inside which you can now explore and discover. It's as if the mine has just closed. Machinery, tools, even the candles and packets of ci******es are still in place as the miners left them. Small groups are taken into the dark, damp tunnels by the experienced guide. There is a choice of trips:
- Pathfinder - Enter the dark abandoned working with a hard hat and hand torch and follow the route of entry hand dug by Victorian miners, discover their tools and hear of the harsh working conditions endured. Ideal for anyone who wants to try out Mine exploring (minimum age 8).
- Adventurer - Kitted up with safety equipment, explore deeper into the mine workings with the optional use of ropes and ladders. Be thrilled by the mine's stories (minimum age 10).
- Exclusive Mine Expedition. This is an exclusive trip, individually tailored each time. With half a day you will explore exhilarating new routes and venture into fresh territory with challenges along the way. You will be using ropes, ladders, balancing and scrambling to navigate through the mine. For groups of 2+ Explorers. Corris Mine Explorers is for the adventurous, the inquisitive and for those with an interest in industrial and social history.
