Very rarely Idris (and Monty before him) brings in a shad, a member of the herring family of fish.

The UK and Europe has two main species: the Twaite Shad (Alosa fallax) and the larger Allis Shad (Alosa alosa).

It was too dark last night to figure out which one of these species we have here - any shad experts here?

Here's today's lunch.. mullet

Idris can catch prey up to his own body weight and probably a bit more.

Up to 4lbs or almost 2Kg. Females can catch even larger fish by virtue of their sexual size dimorphism. Female ospreys are, on average, 15-20% larger than males 🫨

We’ve had a lot of intruder activity over the last few days - here is Telyn keeping a watchful eye on the skies above.

We are currently sitting at 11 ringed intruders. Just one more and we’ll hit an all-time new record!

Intruding ospreys aren't causing harm, they are simply being 'nosey' and prospecting this territory.

In fact, it’s exactly what Telyn did numerous times back in 2017 before officially settling down here as our breeding female in 2018.

It is now a week since Telyn swallowed the fish hook - we've honestly not seen any difference in behaviour.

Whether Telyn has managed to get rid of the hook, and when, we don't know. There are two ways out!

The chicks are getting stronger by the day and being fed by Idris this morning., while Telyn takes a breather. The weather this week has been awful, should be getting better from this afternoon onwards.

All three chicks will be ringed in a couple of weeks.

Prynhawn da

Typical June weather in Wales.

Telyn is doing a stellar job playing "Mumbrella" today - keeping her three chicks perfectly toasty and dry under her during this wild weather.

All is well at the nest.

Telyn and Idris are doing an absolute masterclass in parenting right now, keeping up with three very hungry, very energetic chicks (or velociraptors 🦖!)

The high winds we've experienced recently have calmed by today with the weather, overall, getting better throughout the week; 20C by the weekend!

The chicks are now 16, 15 and 13 days old - proper dinosaur stage now.

It's now three days since Telyn swallowed the fish hook which we believed to be the non-barbed variety. This could be crucial.

We haven't seen Telyn honk anything up, but it may well have come out the other side 🥹

We've advised Idris not to perch too close for a few days.

Absolutely nothing to report.

Which is a good thing! We can see no negative reactions in Telyn after she swallowed the fish hook - now almost 48 hours ago.

That hook will have to come out somehow, though; we'll keep monitoring 👀 👀

Bore da

No news is good news today. We can't see any behaviours in Telyn that aren't normal since she swallowed the fishing hook at 12:10 yesterday.

She's a long way from being out of the woods yet, we'll be watching her closely over the next few days 👀
