✨ Spotlight Rail Awards Cymru | Railway 200 Wales and Borders Programme ✨

Congratulations to Transport for Wales Trafnidiaeth Cymru for being shortlisted in the 'Acting as One Team' category in this year's Spotlight Rail Awards Cymru.

The Railway200 Wales and Borders Programme saw:

➡️ Over 90 events and activities delivered across the region
➡️ Involvement from 100 partners across the rail industry, education providers, communities and supporting organisations
➡️ 3000+ hours of volunteer time given

We are very proud to have to contributed to the programme through our Railway 200 Community Grant Fund. Supported by the Transport for Wales Challenge Fund, 16 organisations were awarded up to £500 for projects that supported creative and community-led activities that marked this historic milestone and strengthened local connections.

Collaborating with a number of organisations, our activities shared the past, present and future stories of our railways and its people, reflecting our shared heritage and legacy of Wales and Borders.

🚌 🎨 🚏 Could this be the prettiest, brightest and most artistic bus stop in Wales - we think it's a good contender.

Arts Connection - Cyswllt Celf applied to our Railway200 Community Grant Fund to create a community mural in Welshpool celebrating the 200th anniversary of the railway.

Working with Feathers Youth Club and a group of young adults with learning disabilities, participants took part in artist-led workshops exploring railway history and local stories before designing and painting this magnificent railway-themed mural on their local bus stop.

A fantastic example of an inclusive, creative project that promotes cultural heritage and skills development.

Well done and thank you to everyone involved 👏

In this Nation.Cymru article, Transport for Wales Trafnidiaeth Cymru writer-in-residence, Jon Gower, visits Llanbedr and Tywyn, highlighting the region's evocative Bronze Age standing stones and the deep history waiting just beyond the station platforms.

Gower meets with local artist Francesca Jones, who seeks out these ancient meini hirion in the local landscape to capture their unique energy on canvas. She shares her experiences of the powerful presence these monuments hold, from the calming remnants of a stone circle in Llanbedr to the atmospheric, jagged cairn-circle of Bryn Cader Faner.

The article also takes readers into Tywyn’s St Cadfan’s Church, where Rev. Dr. Ruth Hansford showcases the prized Cadfan Stone. This remarkable artefact bears the oldest known inscription in the Welsh language and is incredibly rare for its time, as it uniquely memorialises women and expresses genuine human emotion.
