Together with our customers we are creating a safer future for Kent and Medway. We are doing this by visiting people in their homes, where they work and in places of education to help keep them safe – whoever they are. We are

there for our customers in times of need - whether it’s a fire, a road crash or a water rescue. Every one of us helps to save lives. Together, we are Kent Fire and Rescue Service. We don’t tolerate abusive, discriminatory or hateful comments – comments of this nature will be deleted and the person posting will be blocked.

During spells of hot weather, the ground can become extremely dry and cause fires to spread rapidly.

Help us to reduce the risk of an emergency, by:

🔥 Throwing ci******es away responsibly - consider a portable ashtray for on the go
🔥 Taking litter home with you – sunlight reflecting off glass or metal can easily ignite dry grass
🔥 Not discarding of hot coals or disposable barbecues straight away or while they are still hot.

Remember - If you see a fire, move to a safe place and call 999. Give as much information as possible, including the terrain, size, and location.

With the bank holiday weekend set to be warm and sunny ☀️ we’re reminding everyone to enjoy the weather responsibly to help reduce the risk of an emergency.

🔥 Make sure barbecues are well away from trees, fences, sheds, and dry grass, and never leave them unattended.

🚬 Always fully extinguish ci******es and never throw them onto dry ground or out of car windows.

🌊 Avoid jumping into rivers and lakes to cool off - these waters are often deeper and more dangerous than they appear.

♥️ And remember to check-in on loved ones and neighbours who may struggle in the heat.

Do you live in a high-rise building that is:
🔷18 metres tall, or 7 storeys or higher
or
🔷Over 11 metres tall, where residents should evacuate (not “stay put”) if there is a fire?

New fire safety regulations have recently been introduced in England to help protect residents who may need support evacuating their building in the event of a fire.

We’re holding webinars to explain to residents:
• What the new regulations mean
• What information your Responsible Person may ask for
• What your rights are

When someone is struggling in water, every second counts.
Knowing which emergency service to ask for when calling 999, you can save valuable time and get them help fast.
If it’s an inland water rescue anywhere in Kent and Medway, call 999 and ask for the fire service.
If it’s coastal, ask for the coastguard.

🚨Test your smoke alarms regularly and don’t forget to check the expiry date — it’s usually on the side or back of the alarm. Smoke alarms need replacing every 10 years because they lose effectiveness over time. A quick check today means your alarm will be ready to shout when you need it most.

Today we remember firefighters Jennie Logan and Martyn Sadler, and Dave Chester, who lost their lives in a tragic fire in Bicester last year.

Our thoughts remain with their loved ones, and with their colleagues at Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (Official) and London Fire Brigade.

Following a fire in Glasgow believed to have been caused by a v**e or e-cigarette charging, we’re increasing visits to businesses across and that sell these products.

Our Business Engagement Team will be out and about throughout the month, speaking with retailers and sharing simple, practical fire safety advice to help reduce the risk of fires linked to v**es and e-ci******es.

We want to help businesses keep their customers, staff, and premises safe by raising awareness of safe charging, storage, and handling of these devices.

If you see our team while we’re out visiting businesses, feel free to come and have a chat 👋
