The Parish Council is looking at ways to improve The Pit for teenagers and young people. As a lot of the play equipment suitable for younger children has been moved to Bull Green, what would you like to see in its place?

At this stage, we are just looking for ideas, as everything would need to be costed and funded. Please tell us what you would like to see so we can start looking at options.

We are running a poll on the Great Totham Community Page. If you are not a member, please comment below.
Thank you.

Have your say about how to improve buses in Essex for older adults and those with disabilities!

Fewer people are using concessionary bus passes (that let people aged 66+ and people with certain disabilities use the bus for free between 9am and midnight on weekdays and all weekend) than before.
Essex County Council want to understand what the reasons are, and what solutions they could consider to get more people using the bus.
Please complete this survey if you are 66+ or have a disability, and share it with friends and relatives across Essex. The more people they hear from, the more evidence they will have to make change.
If you prefer, they can offer phone calls and visits to groups, just call or text 07405343380 or email [email protected].
You can also opt into a prize draw to be in for a chance to win a £100 voucher or one of give £10 vouchers!

We have been asked to inform residents that the Post Office at 7 Maldon Road will be closed from 1.00pm on Wednesday, 21st January 2026, until 9.00am on Friday, 6th March, as the shop undergoes refurbishment.

Details of alternative branches can be found below.

Snow and ice can make walking hazardous, especially for our more vulnerable residents. Unfortunately, Essex Highways do not have the resources to clear all the pavements in Great Totham, so we are seeking reliable, physically able residents who are able to store 25kg bags of salt and clear paths and minor roads in their local area.

If this is you, salt can be collected from Tom's Farm Shop. You will just need to complete a form telling us what area you will be volunteering in and take a support pack with a 'how to guide' at the same time.

Thank you to those already taking part in the scheme.

The play area opposite the post office will be closed today while our new climbing wall is installed.
This has been made possible due to a grant from the National Lottery, so is at no cost to residents.

This does not mean that anything will definitely happen, or happen quickly. The SERP (which does not implement speed limits) is simply seeking to understand the level of community support for lower limits in residential areas.

If this were something they were to eventually consider, each village would need to demonstrate the level of support for the proposal within the community.

We would like to hear your thoughts. Please either comment below or email [email protected]

In response to queries raised by residents regarding the lack of comments on the Maldon District Council Planning Portal relating to the proposed development 100m East of Seagers, we have received the following -
"We are currently experiencing an exceptionally high volume of letters of comment on planning applications. As a result, there is a delay in processing these comments and uploading them to our systems. Please be assured that all comments received will be reviewed by the case officer before a decision is made on the application. We apologise for any inconvenience this delay may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work diligently to address the backlog."
