Areas of Castle Howard are closed for filming

You might notice the odd horse, cart or formally-clad actor in the next few days, as some parts of Castle Howard host a film crew. This will affect some areas of the site between now and the 19th May.

12th – 15th May: The House, Fitzroy Café, Gift Shop and Boathouse will be closed and the the Kelly Car will not be running.

14th May from 12pm, and all day 15th May: The Courtyard Café is closed.

The Gardens and Playground will be open as usual. If you want to avoid any disruption, why not visit the Castle Howard Arboretum, just over the road, where the café and shop are open. Please note there will be no disabled car parking on Tuesday 12th May due to resurfacing works.

Castle Howard was the winner of the prestigious Historic Houses and Sotheby's Restoration Award 2025 for the recreation of the Tapestry Drawing Room and the broader programme of restoration and reinterpretation carried out as part of Castle Howard’s 21st Century Renaissance. Last week, at a celebratory event held at Castle Howard, Nicholas Howard was presented with the award by The Earl of Rosebery, Chairman of Sotheby's, and Jason Lindsay, President of Historic Houses.

Established in 2008, the award recognises outstanding restoration projects undertaken by private custodians to preserve and protect the historic buildings in their care. This accolade recognises the continuing restoration and evolution of Castle Howard, acknowledging both the exceptional craftsmanship involved and the long-term vision behind the house’s ongoing renewal.
