Communist Party Greater Manchester

Communist Party Greater Manchester Greater Manchester branch of the Communist Party of Britain. For Socialism, Peace, & Democracy

The Communist Party of Britain (CPB) is a Marxist-Leninist political party which was founded in 1920 as the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) and has played an important role since its inception, both leading and taking part in campaigns and broad movements in support of working class people. Today, it is the CPB which continues to support the work of the Morning Star - the worlds only daily

English language socialist newspaper - to stand candidates in elections and to work in broad movements with the explicit intention of uniting the left in the fightback against the cuts. We continue to work with various groups and organisations to advance the causes of the most disadvantaged sections of the country, primarily in the trade union, peace, anti-war and anti-cuts movements. If you would like to join us in struggling for a more progressive, socialist future, please join us!

"If we had taken the capitalist road, we could not have put an end to the chaos in the country or done away with poverty or backwardness. That is why we have repeatedly declared that we shall adhere to Marxism and keep the socialist road."

THE HAITIAN REVOLUTION 🇭🇹

The final years of the 18th century were called the Age of Revolutions. One usually thinks of the American or French Revolution, not the Haitian Revolution, that began on this day, 1790.

"There is no movement among our negroes. They don't even think of it. A revolt among them is impossible. Freedom for negroes is a chimera."
--M. La Barre, French colonist, 1790

Just a few months later, events would ridicule these racist assumptions.

Black slaves rose and fought to create the nation of Haiti, the first truly free republican America; the only revolution of the age that materialised the ideals of freedom, fraternity and equality for all, and played a central role in the collapse of the entire system of slavery and in the liberation of Latin America.

Haiti created the possible.

The silencing of the Haitian Revolution is part of a narrative of global domination: what happened in Haiti contradicts most of what the West has claimed about itself.

The Haitian Revolution was unthinkable, even as it happened, but unthinkable only in the framework of self-centred Western thought. Not only because it challenged slavery and racism, but because of the way it did so.

It was the ultimate test of the universalist pretensions of both the French and the American Revolutions.

And they both failed that test.

In 1956 Fidel famously said, ‘History will absolve me’. And it has. Long live Cuba, Long live Fidel.
