Thank you from Joan Davies
As Manchester City Council commences its new year I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those people I have worked with in my 14 years representing the residents of the City Centre and Deansgate Wards.
It has been fun, rewarding, challenging and celebratory: a privilege and an honour.
I must thank my Deansgate Ward colleagues, Councillors Anthony MaCaul and Marcus Johns for their invaluable comradeship, support, and debates, along with my former councillor colleague William Jeavons.
I also thank the MCC staff who have shared their expertise in helping me understand and navigate the varied legislation, mechanisms, powers and constraints which shape the way we can effect change.
It has been exciting to see the city change in and around the expanding central core. Manchester is an exciting city to live in, a great city to live in and, in my view, is a rewarding location for a City Centre lifestyle.
I must also thank the residents I have represented: open-minded and tolerant, they have delighted in the vibrancy of the city. Many find time to give back to the city through active charity work, contributing expertise to a range of organisations, and actively working with community groups to improve our environment and green spaces.
I know Anthony and Marcus will continue to support this work.
I do hope the newly elected councillor enjoys her role as much as I did.
