The 4th Battalion has nine locations spread over the North West with its headquarters based in Preston. It is part of 42nd Infantry Brigade and is a light role infantry Reserve Battalion. The Battalion specialises in dismounted close combat operations using light vehicles and foot and is capable of operating in a variety of terrain; with its primary responsibility of supporting the 2nd Battalion w
ith a rifle company. The last 12 months have been a very busy period for the Battalion. Increases in opportunities available to the reserves, have seen members of the Battalion deploy to Italy, Australia, America, Latvia and the Falklands as well as the Battalion deploying on a 2 week live fire exercise to Castlemartin, Wales. The Battalion has also provided Officers and Soldiers to support 2 LANCS short term training teams around the world, in particular to train the defence forces of Burundi and Uganda. There has also been a considerable amount of adventurous training and sport including trekking expeditions to South Africa and Morocco plus sailing, skiing and winter sports. The 4th Battalion is currently in Cyprus in support of the United Nations for the next 6 Months. This will be a culmination of its training and will demonstrate that it is ready to deploy on operations alongside its regular counterparts.
