Remarkable changes are planned

We had a really good campaign session this morning on The Downs, The Coppice and The Meadows in Alkrington. We did The Glen, The Heath and The Moss a few days ago. Thanks for a fantastic response on the doorstep.

We’ve done a lot on this Estate over the last 4 years.
•New Children’s Play Park
•CCTV
•Action on Crime and ASB
•Replaced all of the street signs and flat signs
•Fences painted gloss black instead of all different colours
•Inside communal blocks of flats been done up working with RBH, painted and new flooring
•Extra litter bins around The Downs Shops and Parks
•Carpark markings all re-painted

We’ve also recently secured funding to add a climbing frame with a slide onto The Downs Play Park and put in Disabled Parking Bays on Alkrington Court outside the shops.

We are also getting the street lights on the estate upgraded later this year to LED as they are older generation orange street lights on the estate.

We’re working with the Council and RBH to improve street cleansing and grounds maintenance and plan on having a flytipping action day in a few weeks time.

We continue to press RBH for further regeneration and address issues with the 3 story flats blocks on The Meadows which desperately need major works to do them up.

LANGLEY PARKING

Many residents of Langley complained about the lack of parking on the estate. I have had dozens of new parking areas created on Langley by having some of the grass and mud verges removed. I know there are still many more to do and our rolling programme will address this. Next on our list are Broughton Close and Dacre Close.

Your Middleton Labour Councillors have secured a groundbreaking Mayoral Development Corporation for Middleton Town Centre.

Which will bring:
•Huge Investment & Funding
•Additional Powers which will enable us to tackle previously unsolvable problems
•Tackle dilapidated & abandoned buildings
•Much needed regeneration
•Strengthen Enforcement
•Better public transport connectivity and takes much closer to getting Metrolink

It’s worked in Stockport and it can work here. This is thanks to A Labour Council working with a Labour Mayor of Greater Manchester.

When the previous Tory Government didn’t fund any Regeneration Plans for Middleton, we didn’t just accept it and sit on our hands.

We’ve spent many months working hard to get to this point. Thanks to everyone who completed the Survey. Now we want to make it happen.

We’ve had it approved by the Labour run Greater Manchester Combined Authority, once it’s fully set up and surgery reviewed it then needs to get passed into Legislation in Parliament.

Your South Middleton Labour Team have been out campaigning hard and speaking to residents about their local issues and concerns in Alkrington South, Rhodes, Parkfield and Archer Park over the last few weeks.

Councillor Peter Williams, whom has lived in the ward all his life, is up for re-election on 7th May. He has served the ward for over 3 decades.

He’s a strong and influential voice for Middleton in Rochdale and he brings Middleton up at every opportunity. The town wouldn’t have had the past Bus Station, extension to Middleton Shopping Centre, Middleton Arena being built or the Revamp to Middleton Gardens (from it’s previous fully concrete version with no greenery whatsoever) without Peter.

Recently Peter and your South Middleton Labour Team had a new play park built in Rhodes, secured funding for one to be built in Alkrington South and have secured significant funding for improvements and projects in Alkrington Woods. He also had the new Zebra Crossing built on Kirkway and safer crossing on Mainway in Alkrington.

Peter is also pledging to upgrade the playground equipment at Limefield Park, upgrade the football facilities and pavillion buildings on the park.

Your West Middleton Labour Councillors recently secured funding for a full new kitchen at Demesne Community Centre in Langley. This is on top of lots of other funding they have got for Demesne Community Centre in Langley in the last couple of years alone.

Over the last 4 years under West Middleton Councillor Neil Emmott’s Leadership your local Labour Councillors have been delivering a real shake up at Rochdale Council.

Like bringing previous contracted out services back in house, which were previously run by private contractors.

Because we believe that Council Services are better run in house.
